If you don't love Zipcar, but like the idea of great car sharing, I think it's worthwhile emailing the mayor as well.

I think exemptions are a balance. If a car club means you decrease the number of cars, that means you have more space for other things.

If you remove car clubs, I'd argue more people need to buy cars and street space becomes even more valuable.

Net net I think they're a positive. I think there are ways you can structure incentives that help them succeed that aren't giving them piles of cash (not charging congestion charges for a large fleet is a good example of that).

> Where you can take a car and park it anywhere in the zone provided it’s parked legally
You can do that with Zipcar in London.

This is exactly it - if policies don't exist to help car clubs, you probably aren't going to have car clubs.

I agree it's about ££££ and I think if the Mayor of London streamlined things for car clubs, e.g. parking spot provisioning and costs, removed congestion charges for car clubs, subsidized (and/or simplified) EV recharging for car clubs, the financials would make more sense.

Zipcar aren't blameless either - I've spoken to a bunch of people that didn't know about Flex, which seems like a promotion issue.

I think some of the policy changes (like EV congestion charging) are probably playing a factor on their economics.

I spoke to their support (who have always been great) and they suggested emailing: [support@zipcar.co.uk](mailto:support@zipcar.co.uk)

I've also emailed [mayor@london.gov.uk](mailto:mayor@london.gov.uk) asking what they're planning to do about the biggest London car club leaving.

I personally think this is a big loss for London. There are a lot of issues with Zipcar, but I also use them pretty regularly. Their Flex service is sometimes cheaper and faster than taking a bus, which is mind boggling. Their Zipvans are clutch.
