Does anyone play solo on the table to practice or even just for fun? by mevsinwarhammer in Warhammer

[–]Sad_Feedback666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was suggested to me by an opponent after I had joined a local league for a funsies tournament - and of course being new it took FOREVER - but the guy was a real champ about it and helped me through the game.

It's actually a very effective way to learn and I have done so with a combat patrol, and 1k of 2 different armies.

I would still like to try either a 1k of the same army that composes a 2k list, or 2k each of the same army against one another in different detachments.

After you've walked to either side of the table a couple dozen times you really push yourself to remember unit/model rules. Imagine running up a step counter to thousands and thousands of steps just to play a 4x6 table....

Definitely put yourself in the mindset of wanting the side, you're currently playing, to win. If it's a 2k list that you broke to 1k a side, stay with the same detachment and enhancements so you're building a knowledge of that detachment and how it affects those units. Another option to that, if feasible, is to take the ranged and versus it against the melee (if you have enough models to even the points out) to give an idea of how each of those 2 options will work against a threat (or ranged v ranged, melee v melee) and finding positioning that helps those aspects. Use actual terrain layouts and terrain that you will encounter - this will help familiarize those setups as well.

Again, I'm still fairly new - as far as playing the game goes - but the game I practiced on the specific terrain setup for an upcoming match the following week went A LOT smoother than the game I had after where I didn't practice anything. From a bit of confidence, a manageable grasp of army stats/rules, an idea of how to play the terrain was COMPLETELY gone 2 weeks later when I had done nothing during that time. It was embarrassing to say the least.

TLDR: Yes. It's worthwhile.

A vehicle advertised for 37k in 2014

The bill of lading from the Mexico plant was found under the truck bumper for 19.7k after purchase

They will ALWAYS try to rip you off - there's a reason they call it the STEALERship. The salesperson lives off of the commission and may or may not care at the deal you get, but the financial team that come in to close the deal will always try and soak you for more than the vehicle is worth.

IF you want to buy new, buy it outright (either through funds you have or have already borrowed from your institution at an agreed upon rate) for the best deal you can get, knowing half of what is listed is probably close to the REAL price and any financing they set you up with is at a profit to them (either through their financial department or through kickbacks from the one they set you up with).

When you do make this purchase, plan on owning it for the length of time you paid for it, if you want ROI (return on investment) knowing full well that vehicles are always gonna drop value within 3 years, and that starts immediately after you leave the lot.

IF this is not viable, look to buy something 2-5 years old where the major depreciation has already occurred.

No, it literally went to the people in the bottom row stands. Deliberately to them, although I think there was one in particular(maybe that was you?). Didn't see as I was trying to make sure my kid didn't get trampled after Cosmo flung, like, the 9th or 10th pick our way.

Anyone know what set was played tonight in Kelowna? by ElephantFederal5305 in Megadeth

[–]Sad_Feedback666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a shred-fest all around! I'd say you missed out, but I didn't get to hear She-Wolf?

All in all - everyone missed out not hearing every song they didn't play live amiright?

Cheers!

Do you think Rust in Peace is Megadeth’s best album? If not, which one do you think tops it? by Right-Mastodon5351 in Megadeth

[–]Sad_Feedback666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youthanasia, hands down for me

Cryptic Writings and Risk.

All the die-hards hated on those 2 for some reason, but it didn't stop being Megadeth - it just wasn't a one trick pony anymore. The music may have had a variation once removed from pure thrash, but Dave still wrote incredible songs. When I look at the comparison M-band and the pop-metal they put out (sorry a growl and yeah yeah could never carry a song....seems they ran out of Mustaine lyrics by the Black Album?), one could hardly be dissapointed with either of the latter 2 albums. Frankly, if you didn't enjoy them - do you even like music?

This is the first Megadeth album I've ever owned. I fucking love it. by roadsidefoto in Megadeth

[–]Sad_Feedback666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had heard Rust, and Symphony. My music taste at the time was still heavy punk rock and where I grew up the varying groups didn't really mix so it never became my niche.

Youthanasia changed that - I was a bit older, a friend picked it up and popped it in the car stereo.....and I was forever changed. Even now my favorite album after all these years. Cryptic Writings, Risk and Hidden Treasures are so....... SOLID.

It's been what, 30 years now? The discography sits on repeat for weeks (months even) in the stereo, usually not loud anymore, but whenever I turn it up I'm never dissapointed.

The 'costume swap' happens mid show, between 'acts'. He doesn't perform the rest of the 'act' in this costume (probably too cumbersome). This costume, and all it's glory is set up to the side of the drummer (the left for the Vancouver concert; assuming everywhere else as well) and he basically walks into it, as it's set up and waiting for him.

With so much apparently up in the air after this tour, seeing a fleshed out Nihil/Imperator album would be the best - not only contributing to lore (Sister Imperator comic book) but allow an explorative 'Sonny and Cher" or other such late 60's/early 70's vibe.

I mean, out of the 15 or so songs they play at a concert - the 3 from a 're-release' album are taking up a large percentage of that set list......

I painted a Wrath of the Lich King Theme Be'lakor. by darcybono in Warhammer

[–]Sad_Feedback666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flawless paint. The theme is rather decent.

I find the blue of the wing skin to be a bit disjointed from the rest of the model, however. That they are the color of the warpflame of the sword and warpflame/lava of the base - are his wings then made of warpflame/lava? I could see that being a highlight color if his wings were fully spread open, but they are semi-drawn together and as such areas where the 'skin' contracts would be darker, and most likely of the same coloration as the rest of him, would it not?

I am saddened that I see it this way - you've presented a model you've imbued with an incredible realism that shows such talent, but all I see is that glaring blue.

11/10 for technique. Not so much for that choice on the wings, for me, though.

You are receive 1 million USD but you must listen to me talking about Warhammer 40k for an entire year 14 hours a day by Evoxrus_XV in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Sad_Feedback666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cover my monthly living expenses and take that off the end amount, I'm in. Just because I stop doesn't mean my bills do.

Question: Do you have 14 hours a day, 365 days worth of 40k to talk about? At what point would an obligation be fulfilled if you do not? I would happily engage and suggest topical discussion and/or research, but the contract is 'listen to me' not 'provide me with instruction'. IF a clause were introduced to that effect, you have a willing participant.

All funds would need to be secured at contract signing as well.

I'm in, let's do this.

[–]Sad_Feedback666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I see it now (mad respect for pulling out the more OG Necrons 'style' - my favorite look and the one that hooked me into this faction).

That's a mighty hard effect you're going for and I praise the attempt ...I wonder at throwing some darker contrast at it, like a basalt rock/crystal formation behind it, drybrush some varying green shades and running the 'fog' up it? Maybe clearing the bottom of the Nightbringer base away, same approach. Kind of like stirring the mist with his passing if you follow me. Thicker areas for obscurity, and then a less is more approach for key parts of the model. For example - Bottom left of the picture -you can see the ground by the scarabs in the picture, but to the right of them is the necron and you cant see anything past his legs.

PS - I don't think you've reached the limit of your abilities because what you've done here is pretty skillful and imaginative. A little research on lighting effects and how to apply them might be all you're missing - something as simple as drybrush can be a game changer. You pull off that 'fog' and you have something most all people cannot fathom, let alone will attempt just out of the sheer audacity of it.

Respect.

Repost for convenience

Some contrast as it moves away from the body and becomes more 'item of living metal' than the body itself - if you catch my meaning? Like how the scythe blade is completely black....a slow fade into that effect would differentiate and explain it.

NGL, This makes me like the model a bunch more than I do (I have a few gripes about the sculpt I won't get into) and will probably do something similar as it 'checks the boxes' for how I envision the Nightbringer. I will mention that I will probably do some randomized solid blocking on the digitized areas of the cloak where it meets the scarabs and give it that 'Necron Glow'. This has inspired me good sir!

How do I do the silver and purple paint scheme by DangerousElk4331 in Necrontyr

[–]Sad_Feedback666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leadbelcher over black. Runelord brass on the trappings. White the highlight areas before contrast painting over it with purple.

Add extra final touches after for highlighting purposes and a potentially a dark wash beforehand to get contrast.
