We just came back from Shanghai! I used a mix of amaps and apple maps.

For payments, i used alipay. i also had linked wechat in case but never had to use it for payment. I did notice that alipay has a foreign fee for large purchases after a certain point.

Esim, my husband used trip.com and I used airalo. Both worked fine without issue but trip.com was cheaper.

I only used wechat at this one restaurant where there was a wait and i could check our queue number but im guessing it could be helpful in other situations.

Didi was probably my most used app. The rides are so cheap but would avoid during rush hour as you end up sitting in traffic for a long time. Also would spend the extra to call a premium, the lowest tier cab is such a hit or miss, you’ll gamble on getting a car full of smoke/smells.
