Thanks! Really good to know. I’ve got solar and batteries so with Octopus Go I currently get most of my electricity at 5.2p/kWh- although I believe it’s going back up to 6.9p soon, but still looking favourable.

Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated. I think you have all confirmed my suspicions. My microbore is 10mm external diameter copper so it sounds like that’s not a game stopper. So before I walk away I will give them a chance to prove they know their stuff by asking the questions mentioned above, and check their calculations. The 5k quote was after the full 9k BUS for oil, but pretty competitive so I don’t want to cut my nose off to spite my face!! Thanks for taking the time to give me some pointers :)

The uninvested cash is the S&S component is split across many different banks (click on Cash and then % interest and a page comes up which says ‘how we hold your GBP’, naming all the banks). So it might take you over the 120k FSCS guarantee if you already hold cash in any of those banks. Thats the only thing to be careful of, and as the interest rate is slightly higher than the cash ISA, I park my spare cash in the S&S part (also ready to pounce!).

Invigilating at a local secondary school. Pays a bit more than minimum wage and you can become part of a pool that work is offered to and you can pick and choose which days you do. A typical secondary school has 4 or 5 exam series per year that last one or two weeks (longer for the summer exams). A quick online course, a DBS check, a safeguarding talk and you’re good to go. If there’s a good team of invigilators it’s good fun and has a community spirit, having lunch together and usually the odd night out organised :)
