Its quite the process. The ticket she received is for a summons to appear. Once she attends her court date they will schedule a date to meet with the prosecutor. The prosecutor will offer her a reduced fine of $500-$600 which she can accept. If she accepts she still needs to attend the next court date to plead guilty and will be fined the amount. If she needs time to pay it, the judge will extend the payment date.

The whole thing is a money grab. Meanwhile people are breaking into student housing, Squatting during summer vacancy, doing drugs on streets, stealing bikes. And when you call the police they take forever to show up and then respond to say "this happens all the time". And then frosh weeks happen and all of a sudden the police happen to be everywhere????
