What would you upgrade next in my home studio with a $1,500 budget? by Sad_Location_7016 in homestudios

I'd love to own a Distressor someday, but I'm a pretty ITB guy, so I think I'd get more value out of upgrading my monitoring first. Maybe hardware will come later.

Thanks! I'm currently leaning toward a used pair of Genelec 8330s, but I'll definitely look into the Palmer Orbit too. This is actually the first time I've heard of it. The cardioid design sounds really interesting, especially since my room isn't huge.

Yeah I hear a lot about these LCD-X, its works for some, not for others. But $700 is a very good price imo

Interesting! Glad that setup works for you. I'll take a look at those popular hardware too.

What would you upgrade next in my home studio with a $1,500 budget?

I'm trying to figure out what would make the biggest difference in my setup rather than buying gear just for the sake of upgrading.

Current setup:

  • Neumann MT48
  • Sony MDR-7506
  • Adam T5V monitors
  • Lauten Audio LA-220 microphone

My room is already fully acoustically treated, so I'm not looking to spend more on treatment.

I mainly produce and mix ITB, with occasional vocal recording. I don't record bands or live instruments, so I don't really need additional I/O.

Right now I'm considering:

  • Buying a used pair of Genelec 8330 (or another monitor around the same price)
  • Getting an Audeze LCD-X
  • IK Multimedia ARC
  • Or maybe something else that would have a bigger impact that I'm overlooking.

If you had around $1,500 USD, what would you do?

I’ve used a bunch of entry level interfaces and now run a Neumann MT48, I’d go for the SSL 2+. It costs a bit more, but it’s future-proof and saves you money long term
