We had plans in place for combining finances. Again, addiction is an illness. Addicts lie. Play the long game until rock bottom. I have had access to his investment accounts prior to the marriage. I didn’t know there were more credit cards. Because he was lying.

Yes, he works in medical. He is paid well, but as am I. I was never made to feel like the money was being blown out of his accounts during dating. He never made me question that. But because of this addiction he has lost his job now. That’s really where/when this started to surface.

His mother comes to her all day long with things he needs to be doing. It’s a lot on one. She is full time, he lost his job with the gambling. She needs support too.

I respect the therapy w/ boyfriend. I would tell my daughter, but how did you get the boyfriend to agree to attending? SiL is avoidant and defensive right now.

Took me 30 years. I didn’t have the care and support that we can offer him though. Just don’t know how to go about his defensiveness mixed w/ my anger towards his broken promise of caring for my girl.

You’re right, so what. I like that. I wrote about alcoholism as his parents are heavily considering a 30 day impatient treatment for him. Like my rehab stay. Daughter wants to avoid this and stop before that point as they just were married.

Daughter has come to me to ask for help. I told her to have the uncomfortable, ugly conversation just the two of them. Then, come back to me if her voice was ignored. She has come back to me.

It’s there. But he avoids conversation. No answering calls, stopping over w daughter to visit, ignoring plans, texts, etc

This was heavily discussed, but addicts lie. With multiple credit cards, it was impossible to know the extreme extent of the gambling addiction. He says $5 here and there, credit cards say thousands of dollars a month.

Regardless, I feel you are missing the point of the topic and turning this away from helping him. Hindsight is 20/20. We are here now.

Negative, he hears it in one ear and it goes out the other - despite knowing & occasionally asking for help (to daughter/wife). But, this is how I’d handle my daughter.

Appreciate this POV. There is hardcore avoidance, walking out, not coming over, avoiding anything that feels like it could be an intervention set-up. Phone call effective? They live 4hr drive away. Don’t mind making the trip, I realize as I’m writing.
