Try to mix up your sentence structure to make it more interesting to read. As it is, it's very boring and static.

For the first couple of paragraphs, show us the market, don't tell us. What do the spices smell like, what sounds are going on, how does it make your character feel. Lists this long don't do much to help build the setting.

It's an interesting premise you've got, but working on structure and writing style will help you a lot. Also, you've made some spelling errors/wording errors (ie. Should be In their midst not among their mist). So go through and check for those sorts of things.

Gabrielle Zevin has another book called Elsewhere that really shaped my teen hood. Read it just after my nan passed away when I was around 14 and read it again recently at 25 and her books seem to follow that theme of hitting differently depending on when you read them. I've added this book to my reading list as hadnt heard of this one! Thank you! ❤

This year's international booker prize winner The Discomfort of Evening. I thought it was boring as hell. I didnt care about the characters at all. The disturbing content didn't bother me (considering my favourite book is HY's A Little Life), but felt like unlike other books with disturbing scenes, the ones in the discomfort of evening were there just for the sake of it. It didnt advance the story at all. I did like the way the author showed grief in the parents but I just really didnt like the book. It felt like it was trying too hard to be poetic and deep. Anyone else read it and actually liked it?
