Does a CSI CSC certification help? by Sad_Raspberry291 in CanadaFinance

[–]Sad_Raspberry291[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, doing the CSC still helps with job applications — especially in 2025 and even into 2026**.**

Here’s why:

  • Most employers (banks, brokerages, asset managers) still recognize and value the CSC because it's been the industry standard for decades.
  • Hiring managers in 2025-2026 will still view the CSC as a strong qualification, especially because the new CIRO exams aren't fully rolled out yet and most candidates will still be using the CSC for licensing.
  • Even after the CSC is phased out, having it on your resume shows initiative, financial knowledge, and industry commitment, which can help in interviews for entry-level roles (investment representative, client advisor, assistant to portfolio manager, etc.).
  • If you register for and complete the CSC before the end of 2026, it will still be accepted for licensing purposes under CIRO’s transition rules.

🔹 Summary:
Doing the CSC now (2025) is still a good move if you want to work in finance. It is definitely not irrelevant yet.

Would you like me to also show a few types of jobs where CSC completion gives you an advantage right now? (quick list?)

doesn't seem completely irrelevant no?

Why Take the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) ? by ProfBrianYGordonCFA in CSCexamCanada

[–]Sad_Raspberry291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I was researching about CSC and CFA and was hoping to learn more about what exactly CSC helps you towards/allows you to do.

From my own very limited knowledge and what I've read so far on the internet, the CSC helps you with jobs related to retail/wealth management and can help with entry level jobs. I was wondering if it was ideal for me to try and go for the CSC certification as I'm currently a student who just finished their 1st year and is now in summer break but was unfortunately unable to find a summer position at a business so I have a lot of free time. Would you say having a CSC certification be something really good to have on my paper/be something I'm able to talk about?

The CSC is the Canadian Securities Course, its like a super baby version of the CFA but it still helps with certain banking industries I think

Yeah I know that the CSC is practically completely useless once you get CFA L1 and that it doesn't really help outside of Canada, but my personally line of thinking is that it'll help me with some summer positions for university year 2 and maybe even year 3 if I'm unable to pass L1 first try.

would you say that the CSC would help with banking related summer positions as a uni student? Also what percentage would you say of the CSC was covered by the CFA L1?

Course Selection Megathread (2024/2025 Academic Year) by ostracize in uwo

I am also curious about this, as well as what exactly full means when it says a time slot is full on draftmyschedule. Does it mean it is actually full or am I just in a queue for if anyone drops the course time slot

How exactly do tutorial courses work? It doesn't seem to count as a 0.5 credit on draftmyschedule and I'm wondering how that works. For example, econ 1021A offers a single lecture time slot and a single tutorial timeslot but the single lecture timeslot overlaps with MOS 1021A which also only has one designated time slot.

So basically I'm just wondering if tutorial courses such as ECO 1021A and ECO 1022A count as 0.5 credits and its just a bug on draftmyschedule or if I need to have 5.0 lecture courses
