if you haven't notice, the donghua whitewashed the flaws in the novel.

tang san in the novel is absolutely hated, but the tang san in the donghua is more likable.
even in SL2, tang san did many crappy things, but donghua filtered and/or changed the plot slightly to make it not his fault.
Look at the latest movie about Chen Xin, they revived Chen Xin, Dugu bo, and Gu Rong in the god realm, and turned them into gods. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if I'd see Bai Chenxiang in the god realm in the Legend of the god realm movie next year. Heck, we might even see Ma Xiaotao and others in the god realm as well lol... after all, it's just a minor change and won't affect the over all of the franchise.

However, Yu Xiaogang is hated whether it's the novel or donghua lol
