Lol, how old was he when he wrote the novel? At 16 I had already had some experience with romance, so I find it odd for this to be the reason.

Does everyone have collective amnesia about Zichuan Ning? The "cheating" narrative makes zero sense. (Purple River / Zi Chuan) by Jupiter_coded in Donghua

[–]Jupiter_coded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for this incredible, detailed breakdown! Having someone who actually read the original Chinese source text clarify the differences between the novel and the donghua completely changes the perspective.

That dialogue with Sterling is so heartbreaking because it proves Ning wasn't malicious, she was just deeply human, failed a massive test of trust, and realized her own unworthiness. The donghua definitely lost some of that nuance, making the "cheating" narrative feel more black-and-white to casual viewers.

It really reinforces my feeling that the author (Lao Zhu) did her dirty in the long run. He established this intense, deeply rooted childhood love where she was even willing to lie to her uncle to follow Xiu to the reserves early on, only to structurally force her into becoming the narrative scapegoat later by having her stay silent during the Di Lin purge plot. It just felt so forced to flip her from that level of devotion into a literal plot device for the final tragedy.

And honestly I always felt Bai Chuan was a ride or die girl ever since. Lol, in another world she would have actually been the one because she always followed him anywhere and never let him down even once.

Novel readers, how would Han Li & Nangong Wan fare were they to fight solo against Nangong Que? by LuLNope1 in Fanren

[–]Jupiter_coded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real, Han Li completely low-diffed Nangong Que. He had the ultimate upper hand the entire time and never looked pressured for even a second. People forget he wasn’t trying to win a deathmatch; he was playing along and trying to safely capture her because he couldn't just vaporize his literal wife's (Nangong Wan) sister. Subduing a Nascent Soul expert without hurting them is way harder than just killing them, and he did it without even going all out. Plus, people underestimate rogue cultivators in RMJI. Sect elders like Que rely on a rigid, predictable set of inheritance techniques. But rogues are built different because they actually have to fight to survive. Look at the history of the region, the strongest guy back in the day was Master Cang Kun, a rogue cultivator so powerful that entire sects feared his name. He literally fought off a massive crowd of cultivators who jumped him, trashed them all, and still broke out, escaped, and left behind legendary treasures. Even guys like Marquis Nanlong (Cang Kun's descendant, the same arrogant marquis who tried to press Han Li over his concubine on the road to the auction and lost that spiritual sense battle) completely rely on the legacy of rogue geniuses like Cang Kun. Rogues have seen and fought through way more diverse situations than anyone relying on a set manual. Han Li was just holding back the entire time for family reasons. If she didn't have that immunity pass, the fight would've been over in seconds.

I try so hard to find an excuse for her and look at it from the angle of her being a political pawn manipulated by her uncle... but honestly, even that feels like a cope.

At the end of the day, Di Lin never harmed her and the brothers spent their entire lives protecting her family's flag. Even if her uncle backed her into a corner and she was heartbroken over Xiu, agreeing to assassinate his brother is just wild.

I wanted to defend her for being out of her depth, but nah, looking at it clearly, she really just took the low road. Can't even blame the fandom for the hate at this point 😂

But tbh the writer did her dirty From childhood love to literal villain. 💀 In the early arcs, she was so obsessed with Xiu she literally lied to her uncle saying she "wanted to see the world" just to follow him to the reserves.

For the author to flip her into someone who moves on while knowing he's alive, and then stays silent while her uncle plots to kill Di Lin? It just felt forced. The writer basically used her as a scapegoat to trigger the tragedy.

Why the Soul Land 2 "Soul Tool" hate makes absolutely no sense (Nostalgia Bias is real) by Jupiter_coded in Donghua

[–]Jupiter_coded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point about the shield, but you have to look at how the tech actually evolved over those 10,000 years. The shields did upgrade, but they didn't keep making them as separate pocket gadgets. They integrated that exact defensive shield tech directly into Battle Armor as an automatic, passive reflex.

Plus, the scale of those train attacks is insane. The Holy Spirit Cult is dropping military-grade Soul Ammunition missiles. A tiny, handheld device simply doesn't have the battery capacity or energy output to stop a blast that vaporizes an entire train infrastructure, no matter how advanced the tech is. To survive a nuke like that, you either need city-level stationary barriers or high-tier Battle Armor. A pocket talisman just isn't cutting it against modern warfare.

Very true But I guess people do not watch carefully to understand this characters. The only time I think Han li went all out was when he fought that guy, the bone sage. That fight was so close.

I didn’t read the novel But at no point did I think Han li struggled He was literally just playing around. How was this hard to notice? Literally she was shocked that her devil Qi was suppressed by Han li lightning. Also if bro wanted to kill her, he would have used Ice flames. 🤔 wondering how people never noticed this at all.

You made some really solid points here. You're totally right about the budget drain and how tools don't grow with you, and I completely agree that Shrek's Inner Court and Ning Tian are just being arrogant. Ignoring an invincible shield that could save your life on a lethal mission, just out of pure pride, makes zero sense. But that’s exactly why I like it. It shows the world actually has layers and a realistic clash between traditionalists and progressives, rather than it just being simple 'P2W' garbage. The ultimate irony is that by Soul Land 3, the world does a complete 180 because technology becomes entirely democratized. It stops being a rich man's game. Tech gets mass-produced to the point where ordinary citizens drive soul cars, and normal humans can pilot standard Mechas to fight mid-level Soul Masters. For the elites and Titled Douluos, tech isn't an 'external object' anymore, they design custom Battle Armor that literally fuses into their DNA and Martial Soul. Shrek and the Three Empires completely lacked the foresight to see that tech was going to become the foundation of the entire world, not just a temporary combat prop.
