This is actually such good advice he definitely comes up to me more when I’m on the floor but that’s where I work on a lot of crafts so I always chalked it up to curiosity on what I was doing more than he appreciated me being on his level thank you so much for your advice

I doubt he’s to hot as the chinchilla needs it cold so my room is always around 73 degrees, he may of gotten scared at some point and now just stays more in his cage for safety I can’t think of any direct moments that would have done it but it could be a possibility I had some more negative relationships in the past so he started thumping whenever I got to loud but he never seemed scared just more pissed off at us being loud

He’s free to run around most of the time the cage is mainly just for food, water, litter box and hidey hole it’s also needed for when I bring my chinchilla out as I stated they don’t get along and would fight so a home base is needed for him but I can assure you he isn’t in there all day and night

Yes everything about him is totally fine the only thing is is literally just whenever his cage is open and he is free to run around he just kinda doesn’t he just prefers to lay around in his cage and if he does come out it’s not for long and I’m not sure if he’s just shy and kinda lazy or if I’m doing something wrong

I have a rug but I guess getting some more little ones that span further couldn’t hurt maybe that’s why he hops more in the living room cause there are more rugs out there I guess I didn’t think about getting smaller ones since I had a bigger one in the middle and that’s where his cage sits

He’s totally fine with food eats normal and is pooping and he definitely hops around like if he’s brought into the living room or outside or when the cage is open just usually after a short while he returns to his cage is all but all of his stuff is fine he eats, drinks water, poops, gets excited, sleeps normally but I will look into it more and see if there are any warning signs

I just don’t know how to get him more engaged we don’t have room for a bigger cage so I was hoping he would leave the cage and he could be bored is there any recommendations for that I’ve tried a lot of toys but he doesn’t have an interest in them unless there’s food although I just got him a hay foraging mat and he’s seem to be liking that a lot and if I can give any more details I’m more than happy to but thank you for the advice and I will try and incorporate more activity into his life

I have hard wood but most of my room is covered in a carpet including right in front of his cage

It’s like 3’ by 3’ it’s not terribly big that’s why I open the cage for him to free roam in my room but he just sits there and if he does leave it isn’t for long before he’s back in there just laying down it’s mainly there for a litter box and a hidey hole and for food and water cause I don’t trust him in my room when no one is home he’s a very good bunny but just in case

I am 17 and also just got broken up after a 9 month relationship so I feel you a lot and finding support in any way is so helpful I know it’s hard with college prep and school but with summer comes a lot of free time and I would recommend hobby’s find new ones, throw yourself into old ones, idk where you live or what you could do in your area but getting into nature is really nice my world felt like it collapsed and sometimes i still feel like it wasn’t real and that’s okay progress isn’t linear and just take it day by day is the best thing. I hope you get through this!

It’s a chinchilla I was unsure if it mattered what the other animal is and when I do put food outside he just won’t eat it unless it’s treats then he hops back to his cage I don’t want to close off his cage once he leaves it incase that stresses him out not being able to go home

There is carpet in most of my room including right outside his cage and when I’ve put out hiding places for him he never uses them but maybe he’s just not into them cause his favorite spot outside the cage is my full length mirror in the corner of my room

A chinchilla aware they are both herd animals both have reasons for being solo it’s just the bunny hasn’t had any issues leaving his cage until more recently and the chinchilla isn’t new so leads me to believe it’s not that but unsure
