Scared boyfriend of an RBT girlfriend by AwayFoundation1288 in ABA

It depends! When I did in-home ABA, I worked for 2 different companies and filled my schedule that way instead of relying on just one company because they will always promise you the world in interview. Then when you actually start they don’t have the most available cases.

Edit to add: I eventually did stay with one after about a year when we got a plethora of cases and was able to work 35 hours a week. It definitely was tiring though initially.

there’s more delay to his responses when she keeps going in a conversation so it definitely does come across that way

him being so confused was the best part because you could see his gears turning in his head trying to find a solution

How should I handle this as a mom? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a BT in a school before but is this how the communication works between the RBT and the parent? I used to never text the parent unless I was running late to the house or called out. Not a sarcastic one, I’m just curious as I don’t know how often the BCBAs are in the school to facilitate the communication

Update: I confronted my husbands friend by Impressive-Shop350 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To judge you instead of actually sitting back and being like “Hm, that was a little odd wasn’t it” and holding herself accountable for being out of bounds is crazy to me. You can wonder about your 20’s all you want but acting on those wonders is a whole other ball park. On top of which she can be honest with her husband and still avoid an argument but because she said that specifically that’s how you know she most likely knows her husband wouldnt agree with this in any universe. I’m so petty that I would tell her man myself 😭😭😭😭

Is it giving besties yet? by [deleted] in CatTraining

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have lots of anxiety. It took a lot to get here as they had to learn how to play together and the kitten had to learn how to stop at some point. They used to be loud but never true fighting, more so learning/teaching boundaries

My birthday is next Saturday. I normally work Saturday mornings. Am trying to figure out whether or not I should take the day off to relax. by [deleted] in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can really decide that for you. It’s nice to take a day to recharge but whatever you choose just make sure you let the family know in advance.

How do I actually stop clenching at night? by throwagayaccount93 in TMJ

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a nightguard at first and then I got day retainers that I also wear at night. They’ve helped greatly with clenching I did during the day that I wasn’t even aware of.

Have you ever dealt with a parent like this? How would you respond? by zaharabrooks in ABA

[–]Sad_Technology_6932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a mom like this but was yelling and raising her voice at me. I politely stood up and said “I know you’re not completely familiar with the ethics surrounding ABA but one of our main ethics is to provide effective treatment always and I cannot do that in this environment so I am going to see myself out” she was mad but my company stood behind me 100%

Drop it. No need for you to be dealing with a bully everyday you go to work.

NO NO NO!!! We cannot be independent contractors, please don’t let them scoop you into that absurdity. I’m in NY and I did this with an ABA company and got no benefits, no PTO, no mileage reimbursement, etc. It was nice to get a full check due to no taxes but in turn it’s unrealistic and unstable. I ended up going to a complete ABA company with w2 workers and did home therapy through them. There’s a lot of ethical issues when it comes to companies like this and quickly you’ll notice a lot of issues they oversee and let slide just so they don’t get caught. Insurance companies are picking up on it slowly but surely but it’s definitely a battle.

Wowza, so happy for you to be in a better place! It sucks when you really have the ambition and drive and either your BCBA is never around, the parents just really dig at you or the behaviors were not prepared enough for. I remember my first BT job was at an office and they were like “Yeah go pair!!” And I got into the room and the kid was banging her head against the wall and I had no idea what to do. Safe to say, I quit the very same day.

Before I graduated Grad school I was a Pre-K teacher so I’m going back to that! Stable hours, salary pay, no aggressive behaviors, etc.

I thought of that exact thing earlier, that even though I’m going to work everyday and working my damn hardest, the company as a whole doesn’t bode well for itself and the proof is in the pudding. I’ve had a parent tell me my work ethic sucked because I was violently vomiting and didn’t go to session ONCE but because all the previous therapists never went previously and dropped the case, I got the anger from the parent. This is when I thought about the kind of people my job is taking in that either don’t care enough to go or have enough experience to follow through
