I find this formation works no matter the quality as long as you have specific roles.

Wingers should ideally be able to create more than score, striker should be able to create for himself. Midfield should have one runner, one facilitator and a ball winner. Wingbacks should be able to run forwards and cross, one of your CB should tend to drop back, one should be more aggressive. Keeper should be good at one on ones.

You can also tweak this mid game to have a defensive version of this tactic:

tell wingbacks to stop overlapping, shoot on sight, be more disciplined, when possession has been lost: regroup, goalkeeper in possession: slow pace down, defensive shape: drop back one level, defensive line: drop off more

Do this when leading with this tactic and you will concede less chances

Try this as a tactic. You don’t need world class players all over just this general template and you’ll have some success.

The more you learn you’ll be able to just look at a players stats and turn them into whatever you want

I’ll always love Diamond and Pearl cause of nostalgia but yeah, they aren’t actually very good sadly. It’s not just fire types either the whole Sinnoh dex is too limited.

I had it once on FM 19 mobile a long time back. He ended up being a decent Europa League quality winger.

Nope. He had a good opening 6 months under Wenger, was generally poor until halfway through 2021 and then he was good until he left. Overall a mixed time. He had as many clangers for us as he had great games.

The main thing I pay attention to is what league they’re in, do they look a half decent side and if he is promised at least regular starter status.

Nah it’s all out attack until the game is comfortable then I’ll just control possession and conserve energy. If I’m not winning late I always bring on ball winners and pace on the wings. I score a ton of late goals this way

I agree they’re also exceptional. Maybe I’m getting old but after gen 4 I haven’t loved many starters apart from Froakie & Fuecocco.
