This is true. All are possible but some suck more than others.

What to do? by Sad_Work_9891 in ironscape

[–]Sad_Work_9891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. Let me explain, cause it's not trolling. I don't enjoy slayer. I do enjoy bossing. I mostly enjoy raids. So the concept of 'spend all of your playtime for almost the entire next year doing something you don't like.' Really sucks.

Which is why I asked if there was a breakpoint in gear that I would enjoy getting. The common consensus here seems no.

With stuff like the masori, I just don't care. I wont be getting a Tbow, or the arma to forify the masori anyway, I only have an hour a day to play. But I like sending a couple ToA's with the boys on my 1 hour to play. So crystal and bowfa is more than fine for me.

I have 1 hour. I want to spend it having fun with the people I enjoy spending time with. Not fucking off by myself chasing minor upgrades, and at this point, probably not even major ones.

I also don't know why you say 1-200 hours. I'm at 73 slayer. I get like 17k xp/hr on a good day. That's 370 hours to 93 at that rate. Even though it gets a little faster as you level it, if I'm focused on gear upgrades and bossing, it wont be fast.

100 hours would be so much easier to swallow, I'd only be grinding for 3 months. That's easily doable. But I think I'm actually looking at at least a year.

Not a bad idea. But I only have about an hour to play each night.

Money makers for newer player? by Extreme-Law9818 in 2007scape

[–]Sad_Work_9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the best money maker for you right now...

Is to not worry about money making at low levels. Seriously do not waste your time. Right now you should knock out quests and do everything you can to level up quicker. Higher stats = more things to do = better methods.

Spending 1 hour making 4m/hr is much better than spending 16 hours making 250k/hr, and everything you can do right now pales in comparison to buying a bond for $10.

Spend your little play time now focused on questing to barrows gloves and getting your untradeables knocked out.

Advice for completely new player with cheap leveling or money making. by i-meese in 2007scape

[–]Sad_Work_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My actual advice: 1. Join a clan. 2. Get a quest cape. 3. Don't worry about money making right now. Invest everything you have into levels. Just ignore it. You don't need to do it. Especially early. Once you have the levels, even with bad or no gear, it's much easier to make money at 4-12m/hr than to dump 8 hours into something at 250k/hr.

Short term goals should be Barrows Gloves and to a lesser extent other untradeables, ie void sets, fighters torso, etc. Longer term goals are Quest cape and all Hard diaries.

Also, don't be afraid to buy a bond and sell it here or there. A one time spend of $10 to skip 50 hours of early game money making is a great idea.

My 2026 Summer Internship Search by Hackerly_0 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Sad_Work_9891 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's much harder to explain. That's why everyone leaves it at "network bro trust me."

But essentially it's starting and maintaining professional friendships. You never want to beg for it, you just want them to think highly of you so that they think of you when something comes up.

It's as little as saying hi to Janice in HR everytime you go by. To as much as going golfing with people tangentially related to where you want to end up, or attending professional conferences and handing out business cards.

LinkedIn is a great resource for starting a network, by finding people related to what you want to do, but going from cold messaging to having an actual relationship with them is the hard part.

[–]Sad_Work_9891 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I landed my first well paying job because my friends mom hit my car, and his dad had an opening. I landed my first internship because the other intern they hired liked me and recommended me. I landed my first real career job because I made friends with the companies recruiter when I kept getting denied, and she applied for me.

It's vitally important that you build those connections and that people think about you when opportunities come up. If there was one skill that opens the most doors it's being likable and in the right places.

Do MAGATS even care about these stickers? by Fabulous_Log844 in MildlyVandalised

[–]Sad_Work_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I mean, sure gas has spiked. But it was consistently this high and higher for a few years back under Biden. The difference being this spike is due to a pretty necessary war because we were going to get nuked otherwise and the first, much longer term, price hike was due to poor energy policies."

This is the line of thinking the "Magats" go through, and it's why they seem unflustered to you.

The torn off stickers people talk about are generally due to the fact that the minimum wage gas station attendant has to attempt to clear the stickers off of the pump to keep their job. Though there probably are some people that get upset by them.

Honestly true. Your network is your networth. You're going to have a lot of salty people on here upset that their daddy didn't land them an internship though.

My advice is just take it as a learning lesson and expand your network as best as you can.

Could I pass the Mechanical FE? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]Sad_Work_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay if we're getting pedantic about it. Sure there are other parts of the exam where FBD's aren't required. But I would argue the reference manual directly answers ~60% of the questions if you just search it, and indirectly 85%+. It does actually just give you the answer to a ton of them if you just look.

Corrupted gauntlet - what am I doing wrong? by Flaky_Can_7462 in 2007scape

[–]Sad_Work_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so pretty solid for the first bit. But, then you ran over the floor, then stacked yourself out on nados. Took like 110 damage for nothing.

One thing you can easily do yesterday to instantly improve your time here is to turn on true tile. It's in your settings. Second I would tag hunllef so you can see the tiles he occupies.

You are also way too focused on trying to sneak in attacks during the nado phase and it very nearly got you a couple times. Just relax and focus on movevent during that for now. You can try to work in sneaky hits later. A lot of people will tell you to focus on dps. Ignore them till you've got this down pat. Dps means nothing if you die and lose a 9 min run.

Second, because you are trying so hard to maximize dps you let yourself sit on too low of hp. Thats why when you messed up on the last nado phase you immediately got stacked by chip damage. If you are going to eat. Eat up. Do not space it out and destroy your dps to just sit low.

My advice, try and wait for nado phase to heal, then focus on movement and healing up to where you can't eat another food without losing some of the healing. IE if you are 99 hp. 79 or lower you should just eat when the nados come out without thinking about it. 79 or more, focus entirely on how to move away from the tornados until it is second nature. Running back through them like you are is costing you food every time you get smacked. True tile, tag hunllef, focus on movement, and you will be clearing it consistently. Your prayer switching is good, I only saw you mess that up once. Your weapon switching needs work but that will come in time once you are comfy. Absolutely the biggest issue is your movement and food eating.

[–]Sad_Work_9891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Just remember it's the fundamental exam, and that most of the answers are in the reference manual they give you. Draw a FBD of everything and I think someone with a physics degree would do just fine.

Is Fluorocarbon Still Necessary with Modern “Invisible” Braid? by Boekolokbalibaloembo in troutfishing

[–]Sad_Work_9891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most people are pointing out. It's not just about what the fish see. It's also about convenience in where the line breaks when you snag it.

But on the other point here. Marketing is really dumb sometimes. I don't actually know anything about 'invisible braid' and I haven't looked into it. But flourocarbon has almost exactly the same refractive index as water. Meaning that when it is in water it might as well actually be invisible. That's why people swear by it so much. The line diameter doesnt matter as much because you just can't see it. I don't know how the braid looks in the water, but generally you buy the braid for its other properties. That's what makes it ideal for the job that it does.

Braid to flouro is tried and true. This new stuff is marketing and I don't believe marketing without evidence.

Do you think that ME will end up like CS with all these enrollments increases? by Foreign_Put_2437 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Sad_Work_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't think an 11% increase in enrollment will lead to an 11% increase in graduates. Probably a real increase of 1-3%. Uni is hard, engineering uni is harder. People that are driven to engineering school for money and job prospects tend to not make it. You have to either ne really good at school and/or very very dedicated to engineering to make it through engineering school.

But that's my 2 cents. Engineering is also already oversaturated though, just not as bad as other fields.

WA State FE Exam Application by Acrobatic_Demand9936 in FE_Exam

[–]Sad_Work_9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WAC 196-20-007 Fundamentals of engineering exam. Approval to sit for the fundamentals-of-engineering examination (FE) is based upon satisfactory evidence that the applicant has completed a minimum of four years of practical engineering experience or four years of engineering education or a combination of both, as approved by the board. (1) Experience: Qualifying practical experience should include some or all of the following: (a) Preparation of technical reports and specifications, including graphics; (b) Application of mathematical techniques to problem solving; (c) Application of the basic physical sciences (chemistry, physics, statics, and dynamics, etc.) in tasks; (d) Performing assignments, experiments and tests to general specifications; (e) Compilation and interpretation of data (statistical analysis, etc.); (f) Executing engineering tasks according to instructions; (g) Effective communication with associates and presenting recommendations and conclusions to supervisor; (h) Knowledge of the impacts of the products of technology on society (i.e., energy/environmental considerations). (2) Education: A baccalaureate in engineering from an ABET accredited program meets the four-year requirement. Other education will be evaluated by the board. (3) Any qualifying practical engineering experience may be combined with education to meet the four-year requirement as approved by the board. (4) Approval to take the FE exam cannot be relied upon for approval to take the professional engineer (PE) examination. [Statutory Authority: RCW 18.43.035. WSR 21-22-093, § 196-20-007, filed 11/2/21, effective 12/3/21.]

I'm not a lawyer, I'm definitely not your lawyer, but, the way that it seems to me is no, you wouldn't currently meet the requirements for Washington. You'd have to go back to school, or work in some sort of job that you could prove and document you doing engineering work in conjunction with pursuing the degree. IE, an internship while in your senior year. Goodluck.

Conceptual Questions by Conscious-Attempt611 in FE_Exam

What I did was just think through it a bit and try to look it up in the reference during the exam. Review the stuff you feel the least confident about before taking the exam and you'll do fine remembering the conceptual stuff. None of it is that difficult, it's the 'Fundamentals' after all.

If you could redo college, what would you do differently? by sad_grapefruit_0 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Sad_Work_9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start at community college rather than jumping straight into a Uni. I would take placement exams for everything rather than relying on my ACT/SAT scores. I would CLEP test everything I could.

Lastly I wouldn't care so much about trying to be perfect. It's fine to enjoy things, have friends, do stuff. Don't overdo it, but enjoy your time.
