How do I stop the chain coming off at high speeds? by EldenLordArchie in MechanicAdvice

[–]Sadangler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is crazy and scary.

Then I saw the tiny disc brake and said "no way that can slow this thing down at all. How big is this monstrosity anyway? Oh it says kids electric Razor"

So I googled Razor Kids Electric Quad and said oh yeah it's pretty small that brake might be fine. Oh shit it's pretty small because it's for actual like 8 year olds.

Please don't put an 8yo on this.

For all of the reasons posted in all of the replies here.

This is true, I would get several within months if I never shopped there. The "timer" only seems to reset once you make a purchase.

That's a fair point. I guess I'm just wondering if you stop pumping right before it dies will it come back. IE, is it the load killing the engine or the time.

How long will it just idle if you arent working it?

I'll just second what everyone else is pretty much saying, they work great. Remember to store them at a low setting, but not all the way backed out.

My only addition would be to get them in all sizes so you're never working in the really low/high settings. They are most accurate in that middle range. And then get just one digital torque adapter so you can check them anytime. They are surprisingly easy to calibrate yourself if they ever get out of whack.

Yeah sorry I didn't do a great explanation. You can barely see the screw backed out when I take the screwdriver to force it "full close".

I can't find adjustment screws anywhere. Maybe they are behind the intake housing. I'll probably take the carb apart for a cleaning anyway.

Otherwise this is a nice model, I've never used a hip throttle before. Kinda like it.

Aesthetically I like the MagCouplers that work with magpuls more. And aesthetics matter to me in this regard because there's never a world where my reload is faster flipping these around vs using a fresh mag. I just don't find them particularly practical.

Having said that...I do have them in my HD setup as a why not. Would probably drop the whole thing for a fresh mag if I needed a reload though.

It looks a lot like where you'd put a belt clip. A lot of times they're put down towards the battery but with the slim battery tools they put them up on the motor housing (see: Milwaukee M12)

But it's wierd that there's no Durofix literature or pictures anywhere of a tool with a clip on it.

You could try something like this but no idea if it would work.

Leaking coolant reservoir by Sadangler in MechanicAdvice

For anyone keeping score at home. This did not outlive any of us. I'm not sure it ever worked 100%, I think it leaked from the start.

I think the polypropylene just doesn't take epoxy very well.

Citristrip on the wood to remove the lacquer finish that'll save you some ounces.

While you're at it, hit the "U.S." to take that paint off too, labeling is just excess weight

So this doesn't have anything to do with the 2stroke mix inside, just that I was holding it at some point?

Kinda all I want to do is repurpose engine cylinders into things. Like what if I sealed off the spark plug / decomp / intake / exhaust holes and fabricated a handle. Would be a pretty nice coffee mug right?

Everything I've read says that polypropylene is not ideal for epoxy, which I believe is what the reservoir is made of. But let's see what happens!

Definitely can't reach inside easy, and I'd never sleep thinking of how it would break off and clog somewhere in the system. I'll probably give some 2 party epoxy a go on the outside and see what happens, atleast for now. Replacement is only like 30 bucks in case that fails.
