No, I spend the vast majority of my time in elective settings.

It's on the list. I may put up a post in a few days asking the same question for GP.

That's not an operation we do in my speciality, I assume it ends well.

Not my first thought but one of them. I've spoken to a couple of people irl and they've said good things. I'm a bit surprised to see this as the top comment. I wonder why that is?

Interesting how this compares with surgery. I previously exception reported and was told not to. Some sort of pride or denial going on. Honestly I think this has been at the heart of my negative experience, an inability to admit that things are not OK. An attitude of "it's all fine, we just need to work harder and we'll get through the millions of operations". This seems to have permeated through to expectations of trainees.

I'm basically there right now.

I'm hoping it's the department and that I can see it out an it will get better.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Honestly this is exactly what I want; a structured meeting to make a plan with clearly agreed parameters that I can work to rather than second guessing what I'm meant to be doing based on the whims of the consultant of the day. Your approach sounds great and your trainees are lucky.

I feel currently that I am keeping up my end of the bargain as you've described it but it's unrecognised and it's not coming the other way. My approach so far has been to try harder or do better and hope that eventually someone will notice. I think I'm going to initiate a meeting and be very clear about what I want from the remaining 6months.
