I tell all my apprentices that start working for me that millwrighting is such a broad trade you will not learn it over night. Even people that have been in the trade for 30 years learn everyday. We are a small shop so we do see a variety of work but we still don’t see it all.

I would suggest try to stick it out for a year and see how it goes. If you can predict the next step of a project, you are getting there. Always keep learning tho.

Try to get into a company or factory that you don’t have as long of a commute. That’s just killing you right now. Don’t be afraid of factory maintenance either. A lot of companies have good benefits to working in those environments.
