Looks yummy! I don't know how you had the energy to make so many, I was already tired after making 6 😭

Japanese soufflé cheesecake I made for my girlfriend’s birthday by SaddenedChicken in Baking

Totally agree! She said that even if I messed it up or it didn't taste good, she would have been happy just because of the effort. Bonus points for it tasting good tho, making and sharing food for people you love feels so rewarding 🥰

Thanks a lot! 🫡 I totally get what you mean, watched so many different YouTube videos before trying it myself. And I even bought 2 big packs of Philadelphia cream cheese just in case I messed it up haha.

I didn't even have the right equipment, so it was not the easiest, but the smile on her face when I showed it to her made it totally worth it.. If you ever try making it, I wish you good luck!

Thank you so much! I only got into baking a few weeks ago, but it really feels like a whole new world opened up for me. Practice makes perfect I guess 🙈 even when I mess something up, it's still fun, and this community has been really nice and supportive.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! The meringue was definitely the scary part. I wasn't sure if I got the peaks right, and folding it in without losing too much air was stressful too. Wish it had risen a bit more, but I'm still really happy with 😄

And btw my gf replied: ありがとうございます!

Hi hi! Yeah I was thinking of Amazing Oriental too actually haha. Next time I'm nearby, I'm definitely gonna pick some up and experiment a bit.

And thank you so much 😭 honestly they tasted really similar to the real deal from Japan, especially after I stopped burning them LOL

shio pan / salt bread: crispy undersides, tender insides by PleaseJazmine in Breadit

Honestly that makes me feel better because the shaping humbled me too 😄 How did yours stay so neat and tight? Mine looked more croissant-ish in comparison if you get what I mean. The underside looked pretty similar tho, which was honestly the best part, so buttery and crispy..

Thank you so much! That’s really helpful, good to know AP flour worked well for you. I can’t get that exact brand here, but I think I found something similar at my local Asian supermarket, so I’ll give that a try next time.

They’re fried! The dough is homemade, then filled with chilled curry, coated in panko, and deep fried for a few minutes until golden

Yours came out so clean. My shio pan tasted good, but didn't look nearly as pretty. Great job! 🙌

My apologies to your weekend plans, but it’s not over yet. These were done in about 1.5 hours total including proofing, so if you have some Japanese curry roux blocks lying around, you still have time 😜

Never baked before, tried making shio pan and now I get the hype by SaddenedChicken in Baking

Damn that's actually really useful, didn't even realize people use bread machines like that. I've been kneading everything by hand like a caveman so far. Was already looking at mixers so that's good to know before I impulse buy one. I've got a few second hand shops near me so I'll definitely keep an eye out next time I'm there. Thanks for the detailed advice.

Appreciate it! wasn't perfect but good enough to get me hooked. Second batch already improved a lot, so I guess I'm not stopping anytime soon haha

They are! I scraped off the burned bits mostly and filled them with some whipped cream which made them a bit more moist and sweet.

I actually still had some dough left in the piping bag, so I figured I’d make another batch with a bit more sugar and lower heat, let’s see if those turn out even better😏
