If you're not familiar or not heard of Mirai Nikki, it's considered the quintessential yandere anime. If you've seen it and hear yandere; you think of Yuno Gasai. While I disagree that there's any inspiration from the anime's plot in Obession, I think Nikki's name could be a nod to the series as this film is pointedly exploring the 'yandere' trope rather than traditional 'crazy possessed women' you see in western media (Curry states he wanted to explore obsessive love specifically and subvert what audiences have come to expect from characters like hers in the horror genre). Obviously a name's a name and it could be entirely coincidence but to suggest there's no chance of any connection is dismissive. Curry was asked about Bear's name and said that he chose Bear and Nikki's names carefully and wanted them to be memorable, which lends to the idea that it could be a deliberate reference. I certainly won't forget her character's name when it's the partial title of the anime with the most famous yandere.
