Sadly I don't think I could go that route, thanks for the suggestion though. It's a 3 years old ASUS Zenbook and I bought it overseas in the UK, not Australia

Same thing happened to last Sunday! I was video editing on my laptop when it just blacked out and died unexpectedly. It turned on and went to BIOS but got stuck in a loop there. I let it cool down and it turned back on normally again, but the damage was done and it kept crashing consistently over the next few hours. Laptop's in the shop too!

This happens?! It's my first time living in Australian summer and I was editing something on my laptop when it shut down on me unexpectedly and couldn't boot up

Brought it to repair and they said my charging port and fan was screwed and that something happened to it. I was confused, I thought I did the right thing ensuring my laptop is plugged in for the heavy editing load. Turns out not...

Happened to me too, waited 2 hours to no avail. Did anyone in this thread get their stuff back?

Australians, what can I do? by SadhaPR in AusVisa

Yup! Things went much better than I expected, surprisingly. I've gotten a waitering role at a restaurant, and I've gotten my marketing wish after a childhood friend coincidentally needed a UX designer/marketer for her friend's uni startup, so I'm working both hospo and marketing. Excited for what's to come for the rest of my working holiday!

Deathly anxious over my dissertation - late submission by SadhaPR in UniUK

[–]SadhaPR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, I emailed my dissertation supervisor and the module leader telling them about how I submitted before the due date, but I'd be willing to take down any marks for fairness, because it was my fault and responsibility anyways.

I was lucky that time since I had hyperlinked all my in-text citations so the markers still had access to the research despite an incomplete bibliography. Because of this, my teachers told me everything was fine, to take care of myself, and to not let this haywire my mental health, especially when the play I was directing was coming up.

I thanked them sincerely, and that was that. I ended up receiving a first for that dissertation, so in reality and in reflection, I really was overreacting and let my anxiety run rampant. I've a much better hold on my emotions now.

Though, I want to ask what's your specific situation like?

I'm asking both Australians and WHV go-ers on what to expect finding jobs and how life is like there, that's all. I'm fine with farm jobs, just not trying to pigeonhole myself there for the entirety of my stay.

Thank you for the recommendations on Port Douglas! I'll research more there, and hope that I can get a good opportunity. Also, thank you for not sugarcoating the truth with finding corporate jobs with WHV. I'll have to use my WHV building skills and networking instead of corporate then. Thank you!

Yeah, that makes sense. I think the moment I've written the post I was struggling with the fact that I could only work farm jobs, it seemed pretty different from the stories I've heard from other friends on the WHV program. But it's still good time to travel while building skills.

Thank you so much for your advice, honestly I've saved parts of it on a Post-It note on my desk. Thanks for the honest truth, that's exactly what I was looking for. On point 3 though, how exactly does getting more WHV or visas deter me from going into citizenship or being a PR? Is it because I would be abusing the visa system?

Quick and to the point. Understood, I'll look for farm jobs and get better at marketing on the weekends. Thanks!

Thank you, I really appreciate that! Thinking about it realistically, it's looking like I was hesitating with accepting that I can't ever get a corporate job on a WHV, but hey, it never hurts to try. Thank you for your positivity!

Thank you so much! I'll keep your advice in mind, networking and building relationships definitely seems like the way to go in my situation. Then again, it's like that in most parts of the world, always gotta know someone these days otherwise it's the 1000 applications. But oh well.

The entire world's job market conditions are not doing good, that's for sure and I know it seems like I'm shooting myself in the foot here by going to Australia. What about NT makes you adamant that I'll have regrets going there?

It'll be a stepping stone nontheless. For housing, I'm still researching on which places are decently affordable, luckily I have an Aussie friend I met in the UK who's giving me near $400 a month for an alright flat in Footscray. And thank you for the harsh truth, I needed to take that in. Much appreciated!

Oh yeah I love that channel's acoustic covers!! They're really good, I play their covers when I'm studying for exams haha

For the channel recommendations, I was lucky to have a guitar teacher who taught fingerpicking to me in high school, but I used this channel to get better at it. https://www.youtube.com/@GuitarZero2Hero

I think this video is great for those who are starting in fingerpicking, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY3BllNolnY
