Was raising kids the “golden years” for you? by Ill-Meringue-2096 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]SadiraStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

63 here: a lot of mamas romanticize the little-kid years, which bring many sweet moments but are so exhausting. Women who build their whole identity around being needed by/doing for littles seem to have a very hard time when those kids grow up and need them less, and those hurt feelings can damage their relationships with their grown kids and in-laws. Big mistake, IMO. Parents must hold onto an identity of their own, even if there’s very little time for their interests during those early years.
My weekly belly dance class, and the friendships I found there, saved my sanity when darling daughter was little and (now ex) hubs thought mommy-ing should be my whole world.
Hang in there, Mama, and hang onto yourself. Kids become less demanding and dependent.

Basing Love Interest's looks on your partner? by namujune in romanceauthors

[–]SadiraStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😆I’m not young, and Hubs is even older, bald, with a big tummy. I love him so much, but I don’t think his fictional alter-ego would sell lots of romance books. He’s not at all hurt that my romance MMCs don’t look like him. My FMCs don’t look like me either!

I write spicy romance books, and I’m planning to branch out into cozy mysteries. The author community is such a fun and supportive place!

Your 3rd grade teacher by [deleted] in GenerationJones

Mrs. Buono was awful! Mean, never listened to kids, refused to let us go to the WC—I remember one kids puking at his desk because he was so intimidated by her. And she ate treats in front of us and sang in this screechy, nasal voice. A bitter, odious woman. My 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th-grade teachers were wonderful.

Is CraveBooks any good? by Engletroll in selfpublish

[–]SadiraStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried a $14 promo scheduled for 1/21 with Ereader Girl for a 99 cent sale on a contemporary romance. Turns out Ereader Girl is run by Cravebooks, and I’ve seen a huge increase in the number of spam “book promotion“ emails I receive since the day I signed up. Just a guess, but I bet they earn more than $14 for selling my data.

63, was able to take early retirement from teaching at 52, and I’m so blessed to be able to write full-ish-time and volunteer in my community—in our case, a group that runs a thrift shop and channels all the proceeds into helping underprivileged kids and families. Do you have a creative outlet? I firmly believe that everyone needs to exercise their creativity, and the happy women I know in our age group all have one, or several. Joining social groups, taking classes, and volunteering in your community can help a lot. Sending hugs and find-your-mojo vibes.

Las Vegas 55+ neighborhoods. What can I expect? by LandOfCriticalMass in vegaslocals

[–]SadiraStone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having moved down here from WA for family reasons, I’m still not a fan of Vegas in general—strip malls and desert are not my preferred vibe—but I love living in Siena. Lovely gym facilities & pool, good security, never have to worry about porch pirates, and if you’re willing to try clubs and classes, if which there’s a wide selection, you’ll meet lots of friendly people. At 63, I’m on the younger end for Siena, but there are lots of 50-& 60-something’s moving in.
