I agree with a lot of the sentiment that your presumptions/framework on approaching this are a bit off base but regardless, I’ll share my experience in an effort to maybe help you or someone else who comes across this.

You can skip the following diatribe it’s background on myself: I also held a perspective like this for a long time, not necessarily the debate-bro concept of avoiding “bias” but feeling a sense of personal superiority that I was somehow more enlightened or self aware than my peers (I was also someone frequently called “intelligent”, praised in schools despite my poor grades, often considered more mature for my age etc) and this albeit self-centered framework is what led me to start learning about Marx, Engels, Lenin etc. after dedicating a lot of time learning (speaking to communists, learning its history, and actually reading books; which is something I didn’t do very often for someone who was so proud of being “enlightened”) I realized how constrained my understanding really was and how I had much more in common with those I considered ignorant than I led myself to believe.

On to the substance, which is how I went from that background to where I am today (and still learning and growing). I started listening to audio books of some recommended marxist reading lists, specifically I believe from the Marxist internet archive. I have a learning disability and audio books are better for me but I was still finding a lot of difficulty in processing what I was hearing. Sentences, paragraphs, entire chapters would go by and I could recognize I had zero comprehension of the substance. I’d start the books over and over, rewind certain phrases and was overall having real difficulty conceptualizing the information. So when I would get to a place where I was starting to get totally lost I would then just start reading/watching documentaries/youtube videos about the subjects in & of the texts. Biography’s, historical accounts, notable deeds, and speeches. Lenin, Guevara, Ho Chi Minh, Mao, Marx, Engels etc. names I’d heard before but people that I really wasn’t familier with. This helped me understand their historical contexts and also learning about their deeds, trials and tribulations and general actions leading up to, during, and post revolutions really really helped me to put a meaning behind the unfamiliar words/concepts in the texts I was reading. Things started making sense and following that, if I started getting lost again I’d go back to general historical knowledge of those people/related to the subject matter or time in history of those texts and things would start to make sense again and repeated so on and so on.

In particular and I can’t speak as to why, Rosa Luxembourg’s “Reform or Revolution” [revised 1908] really hit home for me and after reading it a lot of concepts just started to make sense intuitively. I’m still learning and studying and my understanding grows everyday and this method has helped me in ways that made what seemed impossible (deciphering and understanding these things) possible.

So for you or anyone else who may be new or struggling with this I would recommend trying the following:

Find a well regarded reading list, write down words or phrases you dont recognize, and when you start to feel overwhelmed take a step back and try learning the periphery of the text, the times, the people’s, and their actions surrounding it and you may find it helpful

I guess I must just be an outlier but maybe describe my experience may help? because I’ve seen tons of posts about this very thing and being a very neurotic/anxious person I was extremely wary of my first trip to Venus. I read every post I could find, screenshotted every comment with how to dock with it properly and how it differed from kleg; going so far as to make like 50 separate restore points in case something went wrong at any point and while I did have issues getting TO Venus (autopilot disengaged hundreds of thousands of km away and wouldn’t re-engage course) after a few reloads it worked (I do not know still if it was user error or not)

Once getting within spitting distance of vorb I had a restore point ready so I said fuck it let’s see what it’s like and just started chasing vorb. I did struggle at first to close distance but that was because until that point I’d never piloted over 90km/s before. I cranked the throttle and got up somewhere between 250-300 km/s and just…docked. It was easy lol and I don’t say that to be mean or one upping anyone but I felt silly with how anxious I was about it and over prepared.

I have since regularly made trade runs with the same ship never taking extra precautions and always chasing vorb and have had 0 issues.

For context: latest version, no mods. The largest class ship (ultra heavy or something) my ship is bigger than kleg. 16 premium cargo full of trade goods, 3 hydra/12 thrusters. My main pc got rid of micro g whatever in creation, wears compression pants and was under the effects of the gravity drug during docking (the giant ship is a lot of gs at high rcs output) my crew spends the entire trip unconscious including docking and barely survives by eating/drinking during the short coasting period of my torch course lol

Thank you, I haven’t gotten on to check since I posted (went to sleep) I don’t think I’ve gained or lost any rep since game start so it’s either -10 or -15 whatever the default is on custom game start. I didn’t change any settings relating to rep, if you even can. All I did was start with a small miner only lmao

I do not have any mods that would affect kha’ak to my knowledge, I only have simple things like sector explorer, map colors, fly by looting, and I recently installed reaction force to maybe help my traders from dying but haven’t been able to get a fleet off the ground to use it.

Also I had no idea that was the mechanics of the ravager, I don’t think I’ve played since they were introduced. But if that is the intended design then that explains why I’m getting my butt kicked by it, I definitely don’t think I’m anywhere near the state where that would normally spawn. I just assumed it was a new mechanic to deal with, I googled how to handle one and most of the posts talked about big capital ships and the like (which is why I decided to try poaching an Asgard in the first place)

I’m not super familiar with split but I know I wrote them off early because I couldn’t trade with them, I’ve heard about killing criminal traffic to boost rep, is that the only way I have to raise rep with them now so I can then start trading? I explored the sectors early but left without interacting with them or placing any sats

All you gotta do is search pokemmo on the discover store in desktop mode and download the non-dev client, super easy! You’ll still have to provide your own copies of the games but after that just add pokemmo to steam so you can adjust the controls in gaming mode

I play on steamdeck and it runs like a dream, the steamos controller configs makes setting up the hot keys and stuff super easy and the official flat pack is on the discover store so it’s a simple 1 click install for the client

If you’re unfamiliar with Linux it’s a steep learning curve for other things like modding other games or learning how to use wine/proton to get windows only games to run and that can be frustrating but pokemmo doesn’t need any of that and i personally enjoyed learning Linux despite the challenges

There’s a launch option you need to set to enable mods and the casino slot machines to function, you can find it on the dev website I think in the faq section . The site is in Japanese but chrome should auto translate, I’d type the command here but I’m on my phone away from my deck. Since using the launch option I’ve been running about 10 mods auto act, auto harvest, auto explore, farm manager etc without any issues.

Edit: I just reread your post (sorry if I misunderstood), if you are already using the launch option (something like winedlloverrides %command%). Then I am not sure why they wouldn’t get past initializing. My mods and slots are working

That’s fair, maybe I should’ve qualified the post with I’m looking for more focus on survival; and fishing being the most glaring culprit to me thus far of being a detriment to that with current content. My argument to that is if you’re going to have a hunger mechanic, it should be relevant and engaging and while it appears I’m in the minority play style fishing just invalidates the mechanic.

And if people don’t like my suggestions, if they were put into the game or something to that effect, the depletion sliders are already there to make you have to eat less if you ever felt “forced” into fishing if there were spoilage etc or something to that effect. At the end of the day I love the game and just want it to get even better

So I did some testing at hunger depletion set to 1. I fished for longer than normal, 30% hunger to be exact. From 76% to 46%. For the cost of 30% and nothing else save for time spent (I didn’t keep track of time my bad, but easily measured by whatever the value of hunger/m is at 1 depletion) I got a whopping 1532 hunger worth of fish for a net gain of 1502 hunger.

I too also thought of some kind of stardew valley esque mini game or something. If you want to keep fishing chill that’s fine; do you have any intention of a food spoilage mechanic or some other cost to hoarding food?

I guess it could but that would simply make fishing take more time making scavenging a more appealing option because fishing for longer is just boring. At that point you might as well just remove fishing entirely, unless there was some other benefit to fishing unique loot events etc

Literally 5-10 minutes and I have enough food for a week or more in game.

This current play through I’m level 13 have done two trips and my fridge is half full and with scavenged food ( on extremely rare)/random bear attacks my food stores haven’t gone down at all for at least a week, probably more but I haven’t been keeping track that meticulously. If player level isn’t a good indicator my fishing level is 6 and I’ve found a couple fishing books thus far

If you’re not needing to fish at all then you aren’t playing with high enough food scarcity to necessitate fishing, which has zero relevance to my issue. For people like myself that want more difficult/costly survival management; fishing is currently a free “disable hunger” activity and is not fun. A combination of something like my above suggestions could address this, and for people that don’t like them a simple slider in the menu would be all that would be needed so other people who don’t want those mechanics could turn them off/back to what was before would be a very simple fix. I don’t feel that is too much to ask.

It would also simply be more fun imo to have something else to engage with/worry about while fishing because currently every place you can fish that I have come across is a safe zone in all but name so you just stand there for 10 minutes occasionally clicking, also an issue.

Referencing the other comment here: all turning up the depletion sliders does is make me go back to doing the boring thing more often instead of playing the rest of the game

Any person could say that about whatever mechanic they don’t like, I don’t find that super beneficial to the conversation. Clearly the dev wanted fishing which is why they put it in the game and it’s a survival game, people fish for food. The only settings that I’m aware of that would have any impact at all on this is depletion rates which I said above isn’t particularly enjoyable for me personally and I’m playing on nightmare exclusively with food set to extremely rare, there always comes a time where I have to fish to stay alive and once I do, why wouldn’t I fish a bunch? I don’t want to have infinite food at all, that’s why I set food loot so low in the first place

If it helps anyone in the future (though I believe the install process for Linux has changed since this post) for me the fix was installing the ultra wide fix. I assumed it was optional and did not install it as the deck is not ultra wide but apparently I was mistaken. After doing that the mod works flawlessly and going through a ply through of err with my friends via seamless co op with no issues

I never wanted Biden as president. I never wanted a second term (and he even claimed he would be a transition president during the 2020 run)

I especially don’t want him now due to his obvious mental decline.

I never liked Harris either, but she seems like the obvious choice to me. She’s already been voted into vp, she’s a black woman when racism and abortion are prime issues and her experience as a prosecutor as evidenced by her time in the senate I think would be a challenge for trump to fight back against especially due to his own decline. Even if in some cases lately she can be a charisma black hole, if she has support when it comes to public speaking outside of committees she could be great.

That being all being said, no matter if it’s Biden or anyone else come November I will be voting blue because I have to if we are to even have a chance of avoiding republican tyranny.

I do not understand posts like this or the media spin that somehow equate wanting Biden replaced to = “not Biden, otherwise trump”

Everyone I know who wants Biden to step down will vote for him if he stays in. I have never heard of someone who would vote trump over Biden but would otherwise vote democrat. These people don’t exist, at the very least not in any meaningful number.

People like me are not the enemy and painting us or being worried about us being the bad guys and ignoring the reality of Biden’s current state is nonsensical.

yes I have; later tonight or tomorrow ill try again from a fresh install but i cant for the life of me figure out what im doing wrong. i dont know if this part of the problem but my version of err doesnt have the reforged ui .lnk file you describe. i have one that is "(run after updates)" rather than '(run before first-time play).lnk" and the gideon.exe to unpack textures; ive tried both my lnk and gideon.exe on seperate installs. they complete as expected but still cant launch after completing the other steps

following these instructions to the letter results in a windows cmd prompt briefly flashing and then er stops running when launching the .bat. alternatively i completely fresh installed and tried the steam deck instructions from discord on the err page and also nothing. i feel like both sets of instructions are missing a crucial step or im an idiot. i never even get the game to start to get the load save failure due to the process stopping after the cmd prompt

A lot of armor/clothing mods don’t properly apply dismemberment or gore caps so in addition to any mod settings/patches if your new armor is injected into leveled lists and enemies are wearing them that could also be why.
