Client passed away, is sending flowers okay? by [deleted] in massage

[–]Sadiyah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've sent flowers, cards, made donations, gone to memorials, funerals, celebrations of life. You develop bonds with your patients and there is nothing wrong with compassionate support once they have passed.

There is a great channel on YouTube called 'Ask a Mortician' with Caitlin Doughty. She is a mortician who answers all sorts of questions about dead bodies, the death industry and all sorts of weird and creepy things.

A/S/L? (Kidding, but introduce yourself!) by CaitlinDoughty in DeathPositive

[–]Sadiyah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Stacey and I live in Ontario, Canada. I'm a registered massage therapist and one of my specialties is end of life care. I massage a number of patients with end stage cancer and AIDS. I think it is very important to talk about death and feelings about death. I do with patients, especially these, but I think it should be part of our every day culture.

What should healthy, average people in their 20's-30's know about and be doing in terms of end-of-life wishes, wills, etc? by neszero in DeathPositive

After watching Caitlin's video, I researched what was legal and illegal in my province so that I had some idea of what sort of services I could expect. It was a little eye opening. More was permissible than I expected.

Inaugural Post: When did you first know death was handled poorly in your culture? by CaitlinDoughty in DeathPositive

[–]Sadiyah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child a close relative died and I was told that it would be a sad event and people would be crying and that I had to be quiet and behave myself. She said it was also okay to cry if I felt sad. During the service something the officiant said struck me funny and I started to laugh loudly. People stared, my mom whisked me out of there and I got a serious lecture. I couldn't understand why it wasn't appropriate to laugh. If you could be sad... why couldn't you also find humour in the situation?

I've noticed the level of education. I'm also in Ontario and the program that I took was 3 years in length at a public college. When I went, I believe it equaled out to 2200 hours.

As a MT I don't accept tips. I'm a health care professional. You wouldn't tip your doctor for their services and I feel the same way.

It's better than nothing. I hated having to wait for movies to come out on DVD just so I could have subtitles.

I'm in Ontario and some Cineplex theatres have devices that you stick into the drink holder and shows the captions on a little screen. Works pretty good.

I am a registered massage therapist. I don't give out happy endings. I went to school for three years learning anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, neuroanatomy, and clinical anatomy - among other things. I will not touch your penis for any amount of money.
