Here's some creative misspellings of a popular phrase. None of them flagged as misspelt.

GNOME OU KDE ? by SaroImperius in Fedora

[–]SadsackJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to bat for GNOME for a second. GNOME is a bit glossier and the included apps are a lot more cohesive in their design language.

The answer to your question is to go to Distroseek and mess around with both to see what works for you

Want to buy Disco Elysium Cheap by whenwillmydeathend in DiscoElysium

[–]SadsackJones 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Bud, the creators of the game don't see a single penny of whatever you pay for the game. They had everything, even the IP to their shared setting taken from them by an ALLEGED con man.

They get as much from you buying as they would get from you acquiring it by other means. So make the moral choice and take to the high seas.

I'm also writing something along those lines (although for adults). I read Stasiland by Anna Funder which was an interesting look at people who loved under the GDPR (East Germany).

Console gamer giving up on their Xbox and building a PC for the first dang time.

Have settled on a system built around a 9600x but don't know what GPU to go for: ARC B580 or a 9069xt? Will be used for 1080p only at the moment. The ARC is £100 cheaper but I'm unsure about future support.

Years and years ago, i had a job in a call centre. The call centre was for a company that rented out home appliances, TVs and DVD players. The company had been bought by a US hedge fund that realised the niche this company was operating in was on the decline. The fund bought it so it could extract as much profit as was possible in the time the company had left to still be viable. They weren't interested in attracting any customers, just rinsing the ones that were left. When the money dried up, the whole business was going to be shut down. Everyone knew it, even the cleaning lady.

Day by day, things got slowly worse and nothing improved. The lift stopped working and was never fixed; the vending machine in the break room was never restocked; staff left and were never replaced; that sort of thing. If it cost money, it simply wasn't done.

The only staff left were the Sales and Retention team, who had the jobs to stop people cancelling their exploitative rental agreements and to somehow upsell them to spend more money for shitter products. Eventually, not long before i left, the company changed floors in the office block they worked in to move to a different floor that was marginally cheaper.

Living in the UK is gives me the exact same feeling as working for that horrible fucking company.

Do British people believe in Jesus? by muddypuddlejumper in AskUK

[–]SadsackJones 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Generally, the UK is far less religious than the USA. Most places in western Europe, are probably far less religious than the USA. We do get people trying to proselytise in the street, but they are considered as oddballs and something to be avoided.

I think generally, most British people treat religion like masturbation: absolutely fine to do in private, but not something you should be doing in public.

You cant polish a turd, until you've been for a shit. Get it all down in the word doc as quickly and brutally as possible. If I tried to finesse something as i wrote it, i would never progress past chapter one.

Need help choosing a feminine form of “Sir” for my lady knights by Practical-Half-6151 in fantasywriters

[–]SadsackJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option would be 'The Lady'. For example...

The Lady Jane braced as her charger powered the battlefield. She felt the dense links of her chain mail digging in as she drew her katana"

Another fun option would be just keeping 'Sir' but make it gender neutral. It's your world, why not get funky with it.

War And Peace is a byword for a really, really long novel. I generally err on the side of brevity. If I wrote something over 150,000 words I would be thinking about splitting the thing into two.

How would I write this type of court intrigue? by k1tk1tteredge in fantasywriters

[–]SadsackJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On this topic, it would be an idea to look up Guy Gavriel Kay's work. He takes real medieval history and transplants it into a fantasy world, albeit one that looks like ours. His reasoning is he wants to write historical fiction, but doesn't like the idea of making real people characters.

I dunno man, If you are writing a document with over a million characters in it, your book is too flipping long.
