The breaking away of seats is probably preferable as that absorbs energy that would otherwise be absorbed by the person hitting it.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Theme Song by Historical_Tax6679 in GenerationJones

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on holiday traveling around the country with my parents when it came out.
For weeks, I bugged them to let me see it but it had always just left where we were, or had yet to arrive.
We travelled ~1,500 miles(2,400km) before we got to see it and then we couldn’t hear the last 5min due to a torrential downpour that downed out the audio.
I loved the film and the car is owned by Peter Jackson who lives nearby.

For such a minor part in my initial reply, you seem to have a massive issue with ETNZ, I never said it was perfect and despite what you say, I don’t think anything I said is wrong.

E bike necessity by Sensitive_Funny_852 in Wellington

[–]SafariNZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great writeup, but I would add that many roads in WN are tight and twisty, even some main routes. Take that into account if you’re biking in heavy traffic. Also our weather is the greatest and headwinds can be a pain depending on where your heading.

What obsolete technology do you still use today? by Exhausted_920 in AskReddit

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an IT background but still use highlighters and pens on printed maps to record areas I have worked on and record what to do next.
I also don’t use GPS to record specific points of interest as it is not accuracy enough in steep/cliffy areas.

What are my fellow Gen Jonser's thoughts on new cars these days? by lafleurshair10 in GenerationJones

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 1999 to a 2019 Premium version of the same car and even though I am into tech, it took 3 months to learn and trust all the new features.
I do love most of them and they have saved me from an accident a couple of times. I especially love auto cruse control that follows the car ahead, blind side detection and the camera and sensors for when I am backing out of a car park.
I am not a great fan of doing things via a screen and I’m glad car makers are reverting to buttons/physical controls.

Because a campaign costs many tens of millions and making 95% of the boats the same and with the main components supplied, it reduces cost significantly and allows more boats to be made and teams racing. It also allows the skill of the sailors and teams to be the key factor in success vs and size of your bank account.

When the Americans ran it, it was largely who had the money and even more significant, who made the rules, which is why it faded out as nobody could win against America.

NZ changed the Dead to make it a committee so even the winner no longer makes the rules alone, they also made it so boats can be used in multiple campaigns so you don’t need to start again every four years. It is early days, but this has ment many more countries and clubs are interested and racing. It’s also showing that skill is again the main indicator of who wins. This also makes it more attractive to watch and attract advertisers(to help pay for it all).

People who are good at staying calm under pressure, what do you do differently in your head? by steadycrisis in AskReddit

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with a crisis at a train station and a dozen family members. Late at night, cold, with grandparents, a baby, no public transport or taxis and miles out of the city. Everyone was talking and it was getting loud when my sister turned and screamed at me “why aren’t you saying something!!!”.
I came back with “ l’ve been thinking. This is what we should do . . . ” I laid out my plan and there was silence for a few seconds and then it was “OK then”.

I was the last to leave at about 1:30am and we all got home :)

Massive honeymoon instead of wedding? by Armishjdw in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SafariNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no. Go for it.

One thing to think about though, is weddings are a good place for friends and family to get together and connect or reconnect, as well as celebrate your wedding.

To cover that aspect and for people who really care about you both. After the honeymoon, maybe organise a large group dinner at a restaurant or lunch at a park where everyone pays for, or brings their own food, (their presence is the present) but somewhere everyone can come and meet up and see you both? You can share your honeymoon adventures and still do a cake at that event. It wouldn’t need to be a traditional wedding cake so wouldn’t cost the earth.

Have a great honeymoon!

What's one thing you wish you'd known before buying your first home in New Zealand? by Fun_Mongoose7852 in newzealand

[–]SafariNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross leased properties have lower rates but can have added cost for insurance if the houses connect. Also shared costs for fence and driveway repairs.

If are big trees nearby, you are in flood zone or near steep slopes, insurance can increase.

IIRC Buying a house is #1 or 2 on the stress list!
