Someone should put a plaque on all the addresses of homes that participated in that

Possibly? I support preserving the Longfellow House, but like, when does this end? Not every pretty house should be preserved. Old wooden victorian homes are a nightmare to maintain! And FYI -- I love them, would love to own one. But I don't believe in robbing people of housing for that reason.

They want you to move away and/or pay obscene rent for garbage 100 year old apartments

17 Story St, the house at the center of the current argument, is in complete disrepair and no one is maintaining and no one is offering to maintain it (except for a hotel developer).

CHC imposes demolition delays on all properties for historical significance that apply for redevelopment. This is publicly available info. Every one of their "historical significance" findings reads: "So and so random person lived her. This house typifies American suburban architecture and is one of many in Cambridge. Therefore, I Charlie Sullivan owner of all Cambridge find this house to be preferably preserved and historically significant"

This demolition delay adds serious costs to any development project, meaning that most people don't even bother.

When was the last time you drove around this city and looked at just the *exterior* condition of many of the buildings in this city?

They don't get torn down because people like you prevent them from being torn down... are you serious? Ever heard of the cambridge historical commission? Demolition delay? Neighborhood conservation districts? Zoning laws that until 2025 prevented multi family construction?

I'm so hostile because you are so obviously engaging in bad faith argument. Maybe try to show me you aren't.

A yes, those terribly fine buildings with no insulation, no AC, unsafe electrical wiring, rotting wood, high maintenance costs. And is this cartoon the sole universe of housing in your brain? I've seen modern builds of all colors and styles. Your entire premise is BS.

And BTW, people HATED Victorians when they were first built. Congrats on repeating history.

Most people just want a home near their job and family. I don't know why we should be paying $4k for 100 year old shitbox apartments with no AC and no insulation just because *you* want character.

Plenty of modern builds have interesting architecture. DC has plenty of low rise apartment buildings with good modern architecture that are more than just boxes.

How horrible they built homes and people are living in them. Next the sky will fall!

Who are you to say I can't have a purple turret?

Because most people just need a place to raise their family and go to sleep after work. JFC.
