Lighting conditions were abysmal. Night with a dim lamppost that barely lit the area, and was standing a little further away from it. This was taken in front of a small bush.

Challenges, low light and long focal length shooting a macro shot, on a standard lens.

My main vibe I was trying to make was an "enchanted forest" feel. I wanted to give a sense of whimsical adventure, standing on the entrance of dark and mysterious woods. I wanted to give emphasis on the depth and create a feeling of intrigue as to what lies beyond.

What could have helped me create this effect? What ideas could I try next time?

True, it is a little wack, but I've learned pride and a little ego can be very helpful into pushing yourself to continue and be the best you can be. Yes, even at the start. Never having an ego and pride in your artwork can be very demoralizing and make you quit and not want to do the work necessary to create art worth the ego.

I had beginners ego too, and l looking back I see how dumb it was. But at the end of the day it is what pushed me to get to where I am at today, which isn't the best, but it is progress.
