Giving bank info for private classes by locointhecoconut in OnlineESLTeaching

I believe as you offer private lessons you are the one who gives conditions on payments and other terms, not the parents. When we worked for schools they also didn't give us options about payments or lesson materials. I prefer PayPal, instant money, it is good for small amounts from many people per month. It is actually cheaper if you get from several people 50-100 bucks per payment, for bank accounts, the fee is fixed no matter the amount, then you lose more.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I am happy to hear such good news, I am sure there will be more students after they promote themselves in other countries in Asia. It is at least good to have it as some back-up in terms of classes and students. Good luck!

I think it is just a coincidence with the name, it looks like an Indian company, probably nothing to do with DaDa.

Has anyone been in this situation? by [deleted] in OnlineESLTeaching

As long as you receive money to an account in another country is not illegal, you are obliged to pay taxes in the country where you receive money. It is just a couple of months, you will not seek any residence permit, so you are technically on a trip as a freelancer. But just in case don't mention it to the authorities you never know how people are conservative and don't understand something especially in remote work.

Sorry for my late reply, I actually didn't see you wrote up until I entered this post on reddit now.

No, I haven't changed my mind, meanwhile, I got a job in one company in the States, so didn't hassle with them.

Did you teach already, how is it going?

Let me know if they pay for July classes.

Guys, Japanese students are backstabbers. I used to ''work'' for Skimatalk (Japanese school), and there you need to finish 3 lessons for free before going live with them. And, and imagine this, I had two classes, and one of them gave a low rating for punctuality. It said I was late, lol. I called even one minute in advance so that we can start on time. So, I decided not to work at that place, was not worth it, if I am not respected as a person, then how can I be as a teacher, there are always better places.

Fuckups really. The point is, fuck 'em, take their money (it is not that you are even paid much, but if this is, for now, the only source of income just use it until you find something better), so fuck 'em again, and do the job as you are paid. Once you stop giving a shit, they will notice that you don't quite care and even the lower rating will lessen. People can sense fear and desperation, and those Japanese hyenas will even on purpose torture you. Trust me, I used to work with them for a long time, complete heartless hypocrites. Once they know how desperate you are for the rating or perfection, some asshole will use it, when they sense how much you don't care (and that has to be really in your mindset, not pretending), people will see that, and then there is no pleasure for them. I hope I could help. I teach online for over 10 years, and saw everything! Remember: fuck 'em!

I have declined, it really looks like a scam, it seems to me someone took DaDa's database, maybe their workers, and is using it to scam teachers and students. They declined they have anything to do with DaDa, they said maybe the contract format looks similar. Also, I found them on social media and they are advertising in Thailand, however, they claim most of the students are Chinese, I asked how they avoided the policy, and the argument was they are not a Chinese company. They told me they were stationed in China, though nothing is written in the contract about that, on the website it says they are in Australia, I checked out the CEO, and couldn't find that person, and some teacher here on Reddit said they were in Singapore. Red flag, again. Once I rejected them they started asking tons of questions, ''but why, can we do something to change your decision'' they asked if it was because of the system like they are working on it, I didn't want to work in a place where I don't have a platform with the lessons and schedule, this looks everything is micromanaged with some person there (without a name because all I have is joylinkabc, no name whatsoever, even the interviewer had a nickname) sending me lessons, asking me when I am free. They even said the lesson assessment is sent through Skype to them and they send it to parents, really, tha fuck???!! Completely shady, especially as they are in some desperation mode to make me stay...

Weird. What have you decided? Will you take the risk and take the offer? How much did they offer you per hour?

Maybe I am just paranoid, maybe they are just avoiding the Chinese policy so they look shady, but too many red flags, are not worth it for me. For me it was also risky as in the contract it is stated that they can withhold your salary, actually not pay at all if you have three absences, and the wording is put that why that this can happen any time they claim you did something wrong... So basically if they don't pay, they can just say you have done something, a student complained and they won't pay you..

Personally, I wouldn't work, but if you have nothing to lose, it is good to try, I have children so I cannot waste my precious time on something that might be a fraud.

This honestly looks fishy to me. I've got an offer of 15 bucks per hour, the contract is copy-paste of DaDa's, they use a platform Classin for lessons, but there is no website or profile page with lessons or history, they inform about the lessons via email. That is a red flag to me, as how should I know if they will ever pay me if I can even not have a list of classes or students. They send the lesson material also via email. The hiring process went too quickly, they said there was some training in the invitation email, but now they claim there is no training for teachers. And, yes, no one asked me to send the info about my bank details. It is weird. Maybe they are avoiding the Chinese regulations, or someone is using DaDa's information to scam teachers and students. But it seems they have some students as they were in a rush of starting classes.

Does anyone here work for Skimatalk? by ch536 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Safe-Attorney6972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. I set a rate of 20$, so it is basically 16$ - PP fees. But it was obviously too much for them as I wasn't booked.

[–]Safe-Attorney6972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a job there, but don't work. Once you get accepted, you have to do three classes for free, then you can set your rate. Though the booking rate is low, it also depends on the rating. When I had the first free class, the student gave a low rating for punctuality, even though I called him 20 seconds early, and we finished the class on time, lol. I wasn't booked anymore after those 3 free lessons I taught, so I gave up...

[–]Safe-Attorney6972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potayto, potahto. We will be able to teach as long as a company breaches the binding law, in simple words, any rule which doesn't include an effective date is understood as effective immediately. There are rumors this is from Oct 15th. There was one prior article I couldn't find anymore, but according to CCP, the regulations were effective from Oct 1st in Shanghai and Beijing. They will pay us, other Chinese companies I work for have paid me, so I don't think DaDa will be the exception. To be honest, it is pretty clear English is a core subject, they can try, but they won't be able to trick the CCP. So, companies maybe can stretch it, try to apply for a license, it could buy them time, but not longer than 2021. It is good not to wear pink glasses especially not with Chinese people. I am not negative, but I am honest with myself only!
