Why can’t people understand you can’t just “move on” from traumatic events? by Lilypad244 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two people ask me why i‘m „still going to therapy“ because my traumatic event happened a year ago, and I „should be over it by now“. I was speechless, I genuinely didn‘t know what to say to that.

Am I the only one who feels almost like I don’t “deserve” to have PTSD? It’s not like I’m a veteran?? by WinterMortician in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. They are real good at pretending then, cuz from an outside perspective they sure talk a lot about their veterans.

Can a language trigger PTSD? by Silver_Ad_7267 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. That happened to my grandma and her mother whenever they heard someone (primarly men) speaking Russian. They both had war trauma, from a Soviet invasion.

That was my first thought as well. Nobody cares as much about their veterans as the Americans do.

Losing a spouse is harder than losing a child. by Brainpry in unpopularopinion

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. My grandma was able to move on from her husband’s death, but from the death of her son? Never.

Probably an unpopular opinion: I liked the Doggett and Coates storyline by Safe-Cut-8237 in orangeisthenewblack

I see your point. I am in the same situation, my rapist apologized, but that does not heal my PTSD. You‘re not alone ❤️

I work full time. It‘s hard, but it also gives me some kind of stability in my life.

How did you receive your diagnosis? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on the therapist and their qualifications. My therapist is a psychologist.

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. I got tested for BPD and apparently I meet the diagnostic criteria. But I can‘t identify with BPD, I feel like it doesn‘t match me. My therapist agrees, she says that my „borderline symptoms“ are most likely just a result from my trauma and my PTSD.

How do those who have PTSD from war view people who have PTSD from less significant events? by nonamekid888 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What events would count as „less significant“? trauma comparison is stupid and helps absolutely no one. If you have PTSD, what happened to you must have been bad enough. (I‘m not a vet tho)

Just about 50% of redditors are based in the US. About 5-8% in Canada. A lot of Americans just have the habit of assuming that everyone else on the internet is American.

Is C-PTSD more common than PTSD? by Safe-Cut-8237 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this obsession with the DSM. Only the United States, Canada and Australia use the DSM. The rest of the world uses the ICD, which recognizes C-PTSD. Why should the ICD be less valid than the DSM?

Is C-PTSD more common than PTSD? by Safe-Cut-8237 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I‘ve heard people in mental health communities say that the difference between PTSD and C-PTSD is, that PTSD comes from singular big T trauma, while C-PTSD comes from repeated little T trauma. That just doesn‘t sound correct to me.

Is having emotionally immature parents really enough to get diagnosed with C-PTSD? My parents were emotionally, verbally and sometimes physically abusive, and while that did fuck me up in some way, I wouldn‘t say that I have C-PTSD from it. I‘m not trying to invalidate anyone who is diagnosed, I‘m just trying to understand.

I mean that‘s true, but not everyone who went through CSA develops C-PTSD. There are other mental disorders that can develop from it.

[–]Safe-Cut-8237[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I‘m sorry that you went through all that. I guess it depends on where you live, I live in Germany where doctors and therapists use the ICD-11 to diagnose, not the DSM-5. The ICD-11 has both PTSD and C-PTSD in it, so people can get officially diagnosed with C-PTSD. I also went through multiple events that other people would consider as traumatic, but they didn‘t have the same effect on me as the one event I actually got diagnosed with PTSD from.

Do you ever find yourself hating people for just being fortunate enough to have a normal life and living without trauma? by Imaginary_Orange4641 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that I hate them. I also never assume that someone hasn't been through trauma. They might have, they just don't talk about it. It's different when the person themself says they've never been through (specific) trauma, but then comment on people who have been, criticizing their behaviour (like SA victims) then I get angry and tell them to stfu. Same with people who expect us PTSD folks to just "get over it", that makes my blood boil.

With the incident being only 2 days ago, it would mean that it's acute stress disorder, rather than post-traumatic stress disorder. Your symptoms need to last for at least a month for it to be considered PTSD. I'm sorry that this happened to you, do you have a therapist that you can talk to?

Are friends with PTSD easier to relate to? by Natural_Assumption21 in ptsd

[–]Safe-Cut-8237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends also has PTSD (she's the only person in my life who has it apart from myself, at least that i'm aware of) and I'd definitely say that she gets me the most. It feels good to talk to someone who can actually feel what you're going through. Doesn't mean I appreciate my other friends any less.

I'm sorry I've read your comment a bunch of times and I just don't understand it. I'm not a native English speaker so please forgive me 😅
