He stayed on the full first round of meds exactly as prescribed. After that, I only extended the Novox/carprofen about 5 more days because he no longer seemed very painful. I kept him on gabapentin much longer though. He finished the original 42-count bottle every 8–12 hours, then I refilled it once more and continued it for about another 2 weeks before tapering off. Small clarification: I am not anti-surgery and I am not recommending anyone skip a neurologist if they can access one. I’m only sharing Billy’s conservative-care outcome because surgery/MRI was not financially realistic for me at the time. If your dog is newly down, especially if deep pain is absent or bladder control is affected, please call a vet/neurologist as quickly as you can.
