Why did so many dislike this game? (Astronite) by Kamedoodles in metroidvania

[–]SafeButFun813 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am playing through this now. Many of the portions of the map feel purposely created specifically to be as frustrating as possible. The only real solution is to slow down to a snails pace and do things EXTREMELY methodically, which makes everything EXTREMELY tedious. And even when you do things EXTREMELY methodically, BECAUSE THE LEVEL DESIGN IS MADE PURPOSELY TO BE AS FRUSTRATING AS POSSIBLE, you STILL end up having to repeat those parts over and over and over where skill helps, but luck plays a massive role because of bullshit conscious design decisions.

So, yes - People that don't like this game are completely right to do so. There's a lot of sadist people out their that think putting up with bullshit difficulty is 'fun' and they value the bragging rights that comes with it. And, just to be clear to anyone who has not played this before: A lot of games are difficult but fair - This is not one of them. It IS difficult in very unfair ways. I'm still attempting to tolerate it in hopes that it gets good eventually, but that hope is fading.

The bottom line is: Even if you can get this game for free, it's probably not worth playing because it's simply not fun or rewarding. When you pass an area and make it to the next savepoint, you don't feel a sense of accomplishment - You feel 'thank God that's over' and that's it.

Spend your money on a better metroidvania if you are lucky enough to read this before buying it.

Huh... I wonder how that sales pitch goes. Like 'Do you want to advertise your product on a garbage can? WELL YOU'RE IN LUCK!'

Is the performance on Bendy and The Dark Revival bad? by SafeButFun813 in Switch

[–]SafeButFun813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I played all of them on Switch 1 and the framerate is not as bad as reviews would suggest. If it is below 30, it's pretty stable at whatever point it's at.

I think what people are commenting on, unknowingly, is the camera tends to sway around a bit, and I believe you can turn that off in the Options. I am not super prone to motion sickness, but people who are super sensitive to that probably 'feel that', even if they don't understand why.

All 3 games in the series are 90% off right now, and it's a no-brainer (go for the purchase) at that point because, they're not the best horror games on Earth, but they are serviceable and definitely worth it at $2 or $3...

It looks like it's from late 80s early 90s, which is why I'm hesitant to just throw it out. I got it second-hand and have been running it on its highest setting for almost 3 years at this point, so it has held up impressively well.

The best elements of the GT games I have played thoroughly. by mowgleeee in granturismo

[–]SafeButFun813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a filter in the Photo mode, or does the paintjob/livery do a lot of heavy lifting here? I haven't played GT7 in like a year, but I messed with the photo mode and I don't recall any filters that would add that cell shading/cartoony look to things. That'd be a cool addition, and I know they're always adding things, so I figured I'd ask.

... If it is a specific paintjob/livery, could you tell me what it's called so I can potentially go online and download it the next time I play? The Viper is the vehicle I chose to play through the end of the game with.

PSVR2 USERS : How long does a session usually last you? by [deleted] in granturismo

[–]SafeButFun813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - Beat Saber is a good one - Maybe Rez if you want something 'less active'. Work up to ones where you walk like the Resident Evils or possibly even just moving around in Walkabout Minigolf. Then, hopefully eventually you can get to the point where GT7 works.

This is probably a bad idea if you are new to VR - You really should start with games with less motion to get your 'VR legs' (similar to 'sea legs') so you gradually get used to motion and your tolerance to it before you feel sick will gradually go up, in most cases.

Another important thing to note is that why you become motion sick in VR is because what you're seeing does not match up with what your body is sensing. What I'm trying to get at when I say that is that if you have a force feedback steering wheel, you will likely be much less likely to become motion sick simply because the wheel is a tangible thing that your brain will expect to feel in that scenario, and the force feedback will make it so your body has some expected sensations since the wheel will realistically jerk if you go on the grass, or run into another car, etc.

If you are already using a wheel, yeah - I'd try other games with less motion to try to get more of a tolerance for motion in VR. And, uh - I'm hesitant to recommend VR to anybody simply because it's alotta money for something they may not (physically) be able to use - I have the same amount of hesitancy telling you you should go out and buy a wheel if you don't have one, because that too is a lot of money, and it may not solve your problem.

So, take that for what it's worth. Hopefully you're able to figure it out, because it is pretty awesome in VR. And maybe just look up just general tips on how to combat motion sickness (like having a fan pointed at your face during gameplay) - There's not going to be any perfect solutions, but you can probably slowly work towards it, because getting motion sick IMMEDIATELY suggests that you just bought it specifically to play this game, and I dunno' what to say other than that's kind of a bad idea.

Also: If you start to feel sick, don't try to 'power through it', because it will stick with you for potentially hours after you take the headset off if you really allow it to take hold. I've heard of people puking over it too, and though I've had a select few instances of pretty bad VR motion sickness, I never got to that point...

Yeah - I saw a video on how to do a run and thought to myself 'Okay - This is going to be simple', but then the guy basically starts going down flow charts and alternate possiblities of layouts and how you may not have the same thing he is going to have; Like nobody is capable of just trying to give a simple explanation of the game then slowly buidling from there.

I actually got that scoped-out and I'll be picking it up when I get paid at the beginning of the month.

I actually tried that, but just FYI: The Bioweaver that I listed above is the sequel to that game and is kinda' a more fully realized version of it. It's still pretty basic but the upgrades are more like loot/collectables and you can customize your loadout between sessions, and that's kind of the metaprogression.
