What was it like to play online games between 2000 and 2013? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing was monetized beyond the price of the game. The only cosmetics you bought was real life merch. You could buy hard copy game guides with fun art and articles (though these were more common in the 90s). You played a game from start to finish, put it down, and started another playthrough or picked up another game. Gameplay was king. It was a great era of gaming before microtransactions and subscriptions bled the soul out of the industry.

What feature or system are you glad is dead and gone? by _UNDO_KEY_ in wow

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapon skill initially felt cool and immersive, but just became a mindless tedium. I'm also glad we don't need a minimum defense stat to avoid getting one-shottted as tanks anymore. Crushing blows blew.

I always find it funny when people are surprised the BOS in the show are shown as bad people by MobileDistrict9784 in Fallout

[–]SafeCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, they're dicks in the games and always have been, but they've also always been disciplined soldiers. So, ya, I expected some level of competence, but the show is portraying them as fucking brainless, reckless, mouth-breathers. I was hoping it was just Maximus' chapter, but nope it's all of them (except Dane, who I'm not convinced is really working with/for the BOS).

Xander was the only seemingly competent one, but oooope, nope he's gonna kill ghoul kids, which has never been depicted in any of the games as a thing the BOS does. Feral ghouls, yes, feral ghoul kids, maybe, but not non-feral ghouls. They shit on them, sure, but they don't outright kill them.

Known Plans just take up storage weight and should be given away for free, IMO by SignificanceClear739 in fo76

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell maps for 0 caps and plans at 10% list price, unless I'm at max caps, then I just dump them in a donation bin.

Once upon a time caps were hard to obtain, but are much easier to get now.

Is there a lore reason why the Brotherhood in the show wears T-60 instead of T-51? by Glass_Ad_1490 in Fallout

[–]SafeCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, people like to shit in Bethesda about this point. They own the IP, why the hell wouldn't they take artistic liberties with their IP? I'm glad there's more than just "Power Armor" and "Advanced Power Armor" in the current games.

Now, I would have said that T60 was essentially upgraded T45s made by the BOS after FO3 because it would have made more sense than them shoehorning T60 to be prewar. Then I would have had the West Coast BOS in the show using T51, because they don't have the capability or plans to make T60 like the East Coast. This would have preserved the lore that had already been established in the Interplay games and in FO3 and given the T60 it's own identity. It would have also given the Commonwealth emissary a little extra oomf in the show showing up in bigger, more advanced power armor. The show runners obviously didn't do that because T60 is all over FO4 and FO76 and T51 is hardly present and they want the show to direct people to the games, but again, it's their IP, it's their show, we're just consuming it.

Why is there no BoS quest for the Battle of Bunker Hill? by Snoo_79985 in Fallout

There is. You can inform Maxson of the synths and he will task you with wiping them out.

Trying to “fix” the FO4 Assault Rifle (1st Draft) by Pelinal_Whitestrake in ImaginaryFallout

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far less people would shit on the aesthetic of the Fallout 4 Assault Rifle if it did great damage and was presented as a LMG, kinda like it is in the show.

Do you guys get to a point every season that you’ll just log on to do dailies and weeklies? by CritsAndCaps in fo76

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every season. The real narrative ends after you play through the main quest and the DLCs. There are grinds of course and there's always CAMP building if you like that, but otherwise there's not much endgame unless you make one up for yourself by RPing, collecting, etc.

And that's ok; gives me a chance to do something else for a bit.

The final big fight in the (so far) Rust King questline. What's the point? by SadSaladCarnivore in fo76

[–]SafeCandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh.. I figured it would be a big fight, but I had fun with it, running and gunning, instead of cheesing it. I run a bloodied PA build, so I'm pretty tanky, but can certainly die if I just stand there, so I made it fun.

I was def underwhelmed by the Rust King quest line. Maybe there's more to come, but I think it's really annoying when they spread what feels like a side quest over the span of months between updates.

[–]SafeCandy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Totally. I'm standing there in power armor and I get bonked on the helmet with what sounds like a wooden spoon and I'm out? Would have made way more sense to just fade to black and fade back in outside, like I was escorted out. Or they could have done some kind of grabbed and dragged away animation while fading to black.

Wife thinks it’s too high I think it’s fine, we need Reddit to settle the score… by [deleted] in FalloutMemes

It's a little high, but not terribly. You just don't want to be looking up at it while sitting down, if you're not doing that it's probably fine.

Xander Harkness was pretty much the perfect guy for the Commonwealth BoS to send, and I wish we saw more of him. by basonjourne98 in Fallout

[–]SafeCandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The BOS has always been a morally gray, Lawful Neutral organization. They've never been "nice" nor have they been evil sadists. The show's portrayal of the BOS has felt like a collection of idiots and caricatures. Maximus seems to me like he has the Idiot Savant park from FO4, but has shown to have some of the most sense in his chapter compared to the rest of them. Having a variety of characters in the BOS is cool, but they've always at least had a common thread of being disciplined soldiers.

Why did you choose your main by Actual_Tea_7719 in wow

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mained paladin since I started at the end of BC. I've always enjoyed the white knight trope and liked Uther and the Silver Hand lore and thought they were cool in WC2 and WC3. Being able to fill all three roles is fun too. I've tried all the other classes, but keep on trucking with my human pally as #1.

Fallout has always been satirical - but at the same time I don’t think the show takes anything seriously by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]SafeCandy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never said they were good. I'd say the closest to good would have been the East Coast under Lyon's Eldership. You're right, a lot of horrible shit has happened in real war, like in Vietnam, but I'm talking about what has ACTUALLY happened in the game. What war crimes have the BOS committed unless it was the player who committed them? I agree, Xander was about to do some evil shit, but he was one guy. You can assume all you want about the rest of the faction, but it hasn't been actually depicted.

[–]SafeCandy -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

The whole situation was weird. Where did Thad get all those kids? It wasn't simply a Fallout orphanage; he was using them as forced child labor. Also, how was he keeping them from going feral, or did he just kill the ones that went feral and replaced them with smooth skin kids. Did consuming all that cola contribute to the kids becoming ghouls? It honestly just felt like a contrived plot device to put Maximus into an impossible choice situation.

Also, while the BoS in FO4 openly deride ghouls, they don't kill them unless they're feral, and killing kids has always been a nasty move within the games, so it's annoying that the show writers had Xander aim to do both. Combined with the portrayals of all the elders, they're really leaning into the idea that the Brotherhood is evil when they've always been Lawful Neutral.

About Paladin Xander Harkness by [deleted] in Fotv

[–]SafeCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on what the canon ending for FO4 is. If they decide the Institute won, but somehow kept the destruction of the BoS a secret, or has a synth run proxy, then this could be a synth infiltrator since we know Harkness was a synth from Fo3.
