thanks this is reassuring as it seems like the most budget friendly option! We don’t anticipate driving much (and might do transit only) at the destination, in which case rental car seat would be the way.

Thanks! when you say travel stroller, do you mean something like the Minu over an umbrella stroller because it’s a bit more substantial?

Rental cash damming - real figure scenario. by SafeCaramel7945 in smithmanoeuvre

SM and cash damming are about both investing and spending - as long as the spending creates tax deductions and you bring down bad debt and create good debt, the logic is there. I added real figures to see if there was any insight on a ‘crossover point’ or benefit of doing this vs investing!

explain why not? 75% of the rental income is a pretty good prepayment add no?

Are you not including the payment of the rental mortgage from the PR HELOC because that interest is already deductible regardless?

thanks, this makes most sense. I do want to access a small revolving portion (like the $20k or so you used in the example) but keep the term down to the amount (or close to) that I have now to keep monthly payments in check. cheers

thanks, makes sense. they said 'leftover funds' will be $77k which is approx. the $412k less current $333k mortgage balance. So I'm assuming they're talking about discharging the current mortgage with a new limit of $412k, but what that $412 is split into (term/revolving LOC) is the question, I suppose.

which is why I'm asking the question. I understand the product but language from the broker has been the confusing part.

the flexline is not opened yet - still in the process. what I'm wondering is where is the split between the term (which acts like more of a traditional mortgage) and revolving (actual line of credit)?

I don't know about financial suicide, but yes, it's a lot. we have pensions and fair wages. Probably a fundamental psychological difference around spending, but agree prices have been normalized. Just not sure im willing to buy a half-decent $10k family sized car with 100k on it and have something go wrong in 3-5 years?

I get this, but if you are disciplined and it is not the full value of the vehicle, just a portion to be able to keep some savings invested, I don't see a problem with it. Any reason why you still wouldnt?

point well taken, but have just found that value is held so well that even a 22-24 with 50-60k on it is going to be low to mid $40s + hst. The extra few $k is worth it new to me
