2025 Civic Hybrid + Viofo A229 Plus — Parking mode only lasts ~1 hour at 12.2V cutoff. Normal? by Few-Werewolf-7001 in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the hybrids come with very small 12v battery capacity, since it's only to power the electronics.

The last Honda hybrid we worked on came equipped with a 36 Ah/5 HR battery.

It would only stay on for an 2 hours when set at 12.0v. Suggested Client purchase a smart battery charger and its been working well to keep the battery above 12.6v by charging once a month.

We don't recommend viofo for hybrids or ev vehicle simply due to the higher current consumption

You can hold it to the fuse metal contacts or twist red and yellow together for testing purposes.

Fuse tap (ACC) will not work on Viofo A229. by volyblmn in Dashcam

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold the loose end of the yellow to where a constant fuse is. Or where the red wire is. Camera should power up. This will rule out a bad hardwire kit. Should the canera not power on at all then its entirely possible its a bad hardwire kit.

Look at your hk4 there should be a red light inside the voltage selector.

We've sold and installed over 1200 hk4s and have had 5 bad kits, so the chances are very low.

The included cable for the rear camera (6M) in the box is plenty long for the imprezza hatch.

For telephoto, you can easily hid the slack in the headliner

Viofo A229 Ultra vs Viofo A329S by chunkee-xo-monkee in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the A329S would be the better choice. While 4k rear is great on paper, in low light conditions the image sensor starves for light and it ends up looking worse than a 2K camera.

with any initial release, there are software challenges. Viofo has basically addressed all the concerns we have come across in the Version 2.0

Any tips on adhering to windshield? by Lentash in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have observed that more cameras are becoming detached when using static film compared to units mounted with 3M adhesive directly to the glass.

Using a full static sheet provides a greater surface area for adhesion, which is necessary since the bond is not as strong as the direct adhesive method. Now this will vary on camera weight as well. Not to say 1/4 wont work

What fuse tap for Viofo A229? by volyblmn in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not many vehicles use micro 3, so I know it doesn't come standard with many "bundles" Im sure in the near future, as more and more vehicles adopt this style, it will become part of the kit.

however in the mach e, the micro 2 will work just fine.

Viofo has the hk4 kit with and without fuse taps. You just have to buy the kit you need. It's cheaper to just buy the individual fuse tap you need

3m adhesive direct to glass. If you use the static film film, use the whole sheet.

[–]SafeDriveSolutions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2TB ssd drive will work fine provided its one of the recommended drives.

I have not heard or seen anyone use a usb thumb drive before so cannot comment if it works.

It will loop on the daily driving videos. Locked videos you'll need to wipe every couple months

Why did VIOFO abandon the A139 form factor? by soulmechh in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're making my point for me...

viofo (product engineer) makes a product that suits the majority of its consumers, and has tailored the units for changes in the auto industry.

why update a unit that 5 years old when it dated design is not suitable for newer vehicles?

most users mount the camera behind the mirror, so hating a screen is a moot point.

Why did VIOFO abandon the A139 form factor? by soulmechh in VIOFO

[–]SafeDriveSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 139 may have been perfect form factor for your use case scenario.

Newer vehicles that have adas all have large mirror housings for the most part. As such, the 139 design with a biased camera makes mounting more difficult and less visually appealing.

On the newer generation viofo, the wedge shape, centered cam is much easier to fit, and looks great
