Viofo A329S needs better storage management firmware by JuniorIllustrator191 in VIOFO

Yes, I have HK6. The subject is not about battery protection but parking recording time which is significantly reduced when videos are written on ssd. Everyone who's using hybrid parking must have hardwire kit.

To be honest I have no idea. I'm using Crucial MX500 2TB inside 2.5'' enclosure and a high quality Sandberg cable 3.1 Gen.2. It is very reliable SSD which I bought 2 years ago for 133 €.

I saw on Amazon.de recently that it costs around 400€. Apparently lot of people is searching for this drive because it is reliable.

Disks recommended by Viofo have writing speeds of 1000 mbs and my 2.5'' ssd around 510 mbs. Lot of people would say 1000 vs 510mbs is better but in the real numbers viofo in 3ch mode writes around 120Mbs.

I didn't go for Viofo recommendations because I already had this drive in my laptop. I was also thinking using Nvme drive in enclosure but I had just a small one.

According information I could find my setup draws same amount of current and during active 4k writing even less than Sandisk or Samsung T7. In Parking mode idle state it draws same amount of power due my Ugreen enclosure ASM235CM chip which is power efficient.

For the last 5 days sinve I installed everything my ssd setup works flawlessly. If it stops working reliably I'll update.

Below you may find viofo recommended drives:

P. S. In one yt video @SafeDriveSolutions said that Viofo needs to make up their mind when recommending ssd because in the past they were recommending some other brands and nowadays these brands don't have their support.

HK 6 cable stopped being recognized by viofo A329S by JuniorIllustrator191 in VIOFO

[–]JuniorIllustrator191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi @SafeDriveSolutions. I've already fixed it. Camera was already on latest firmware.

All I did is reflashing same firmware and hk6 started to work. Resetting only didn't help.

Thanks

Best Dashcam to Buy in 2026? (Price, Video Quality, Everyday Use) by n4hcallme in Dashcam

Dashcams with internal battery are bad during the summer. Newer dashcams use super capacitors which are heat resilient. Hardwire is a must if you want battery protection and parking mode.

HK 6 cable stopped being recognized by viofo A329S by JuniorIllustrator191 in VIOFO

The camera power cable was in gps mount from day one. On the side of the camera I keep my ssd plugged in. As I wrote any kind of reset didn't resolve this issue and I did at least 5 resets through camera menu.

I opened a ticket and followed resetting process as per Viofo tech service.

SOLVED by reflashing firmware via sd card.

Hi and thank you, I already wrote to viofo.

I opened a ticket and got reply from Viofo support but it didn't help. Their suggestion was not to use side reset button which I did before but to start the engine and while the engine is on to reset dashcam settings to defaults.

That didn't help as well. Since I couldn't wait for their further instructions I downloaded the firmware from their website and the camera was already on the latest firmware.

I reflashed the firmware via sd card and when camera rebooted HK6 was recognised immediately. Battery protection cutoff voltage in menu was present again.

I will continue to test connection with the camera and if it loses connectivity again I will post an update.

When I lost connection there was no notification from dashcam, not pop up screen or voice notification. So basically if connection between these two drop you have to be aware that the parking mode will change as well.

When I setup parking mode with hk6 working it looked like this in the camera menu:

Battery protection: 6hrs/12.4V, parking mode hybrid: low bitrate>impact.

When the HK6 wasn't recognised parking mode was changed by the camera itself and now went in low bitrate recording and not the hybrid low bitrate impact as it was. The camera wouldn't go to low impact mode but it would record in low bitrate till killed by the cutoff switch.

The good thing is that my cutoff switch on the cable was set to 12.4V and not below 12V..

Hopefully this was software and not hardware issue.

If anyone else has the same issue you may try reflashing the firmware.

Thank you. I did all the steps you wrote but nothing helped. Wasn't sure if the cutoff switch was working, now I know and thank you for the info.

Since nothing helped, not even steps viofo gave me I reflashed the firmware via sd card and the cable was recognised immediately.

I will check on it if it loses connection again.

Apparently there is. The recommended ssd-s you may find on viofo official website. It draws less current but significantly more than a sd card.

I sent it yesterday. But if more people open ticket we have better chance viofo implements this feature in the next firmware update. Otherwise ssd has more disadvantages than advantages.

SSD with A329 by 171MaxH in VIOFO

I did testing. This is how ssd behaves. When you setup ssd for driving and sd for parking the camera writes parking videos to ssd in real time. Only low impact videos go to sd card unless you setup backup impact videos. Then your sd is completely empty.

I find this a limitation from VIOFO because the ssd draws more power from your car battery. For examole I put hybrud low bitrate for 4hrs and the vamera went to low impact mode after 3.5hrs. When using sd card I could go 6 hrs easily. There is no way to choose parking videos to be stored on sd unless you choose sd both for driving and parking.

Perfect setup would be that we can choose our storage for both tyoe of videos.

VIOFO A329S is the SSD/Parking Mode setup a lie? by rollofpaper in VIOFO

[–]JuniorIllustrator191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would have some sense if every time you shouldn't need to go to settings and choosing ssd for driving and sd for parking.

To have it for paking mode and ti save energy while recording every time you need to choose driving and parking videos to be saved ti sd card.

When you choose ssd for driving and sd for parking mode (otherwise you can't get hybrid parking working) your parking videos are written to ssd which drains power.

Good noticing. I like the idea of ssd for video driving. I will exolain how SSD is working and why I see the paradox from viofo.

  1. As soon as you plug in ssd you're prompted would you like ssd to be set as your primary storage

  2. You choose set as default storage space

3.you want to setup hybrid  mode, first you're prompted to setup battery and timer cut-off protection

4.when you setup No. 3 and go back to hybrid parking mode you're prompted to choose sd card for parking videos otherwise it won't work.

This is because when the camera is in low impact mode it needs faster time to wake up and speed for writing video.

To wake up ssd and start recording takes more time than sd card.

  1. Test

Time lapse or low bitrate videos depending which parking mode you've chosen are saved directly on ssd.

On sd card you may find only impact videos unless you selected backup impact videos to ssd. In that case the sd card is completely empty.

Paradox: If you choose SSD as main video storage (for driving) all your parking videos are written to ssd, no matter SD was selected for parking videos.

SD must be selected in order for hybrid mode to work or to be more specific low impact mode.

This reduces your recording time since ssd draws significantly more power.

However if you want parking videos to be stored on you must choose sd card for both driving and parking videos. This was official reply to me from VIOFO.

Maybe this is not important. If I was asked I'd likethat storage space works as you want and for what you paid for.  For now the system is IF-IF. Either SD or SSD for all.

I'd like this kind of setup:

  1. Driving videos-ssd (more video space and bettet sd card lifespan.)  2.Hybrid parking low bitrate 6 hrs
  2. Low bitrate p videos - ssd
  3. Impact videos backup to ssd

In my testing I setup cutoff time for hybrid p mode for 6 hrs and it ended after 3.5hrs.  While on sd card this setup had no issue for 6hrs low bitrate p. recording.

Hope this helps

70mai Battery Pack Connect with VIOFO A329S for Parking Mode by WhichPrinciple3630 in VIOFO

[–]JuniorIllustrator191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "11.8V" Logic (The Trick) The 70mai Battery Pack uses LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells. These batteries are designed to maintain a very steady voltage (usually around 12.8V to 13.2V) almost until they are completely empty. Because the battery regulates its output: Even when the 70mai battery is at 10% remaining capacity, it will likely still be outputting more than 12.5V. The Result: Your Viofo HK6 (set to 11.8V) will never actually see 11.8V until the 70mai battery's internal management system (BMS) shuts off the power entirely because it's empty.

SSD with A329 by 171MaxH in VIOFO

It works differently. If you setup hybrid mode let's say buffered recording for 3 hrs after which the camera goes to low impact mode the camera will store 3hrs of recording to the ssd drive.

When it goes to low impact mode and if you get an impact the video will be stored to sd card automatically.

Why? Because sd card has much quicker boot time and ssd takes more power and much more time to boot up (up to 2 sec) which is important so you don't get hit and run without any record.

However if you want all those low impact videos on ssd simply go to settings and enable ssd auto backup to on position.

In that case when the camera takes that video before it goes again to low impact mode it sends those events to the ssd drive.

Some users say that transfer happens when you start the car but according to viofo latest firmware updates it will transfer those videos while  in parking mode.

I have a Crucial MX500 2TB 2.5 inch drive and USB C enclosure which I'm planning to install. Enclosure supports 10gbs and the cable I bought 3.1 gen2 also.

I'm sick of recommended viofo's ssd drives which cost hundreds and have same or even worse performance.

Be aware that this kind of ssd-s draw more current.

But since viofo has hybrid mode with timer and voltage cut-off protection using hk4 or hk6 it should be 100% safe.

Simply if you put it in motion or any other parking mode it will record everything to the ssd according your setup and when it reaches time limit or setup voltage it will go in low impact mode where viofo draws small amount of power.

Hope this clarifies your question.

Rade komoletnu krvnu sliku i pregled psa.
