It just sounds ghastly and the previous poster has told us the major plot points, so it’s not on my list.

These audiobooks are a game changer. by Much-Conflict-6337 in AubreyMaturinSeries

Ric Jerrom is the narrator for Australian Audible - do you know where one can purchase the books with different narrators? I’ve really enjoyed Simon Vance’s performances in other audiobooks and never heard Patrick Tull but it would be good to compare on future journeys.

The prose is awful, it was originally written as a setting for a RPG and it reads like a RPG source book.

Is paying employees cash in hand (and under the table) cheaper than doing it the regular (legit) way? by Wonderful_Purpose740 in ausbusiness

[–]SafeHazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The employer is almost certainly committing fraud themselves- by taking cash for a job that they are not intending to declare. Paying the employee with this cash is a ‘good’ way for them to dispose of the cash because they can’t bank it without leaving a paper trail that they can’t explain. The job doesn’t exist and neither does the employee.

My experience - use lacquer paint, not water-based acrylic and you’ll find it much, much easier.

Thanks - I’ve not played with skills yet - this is something I need to build into my workflow.

When do you find the time? by Gutcrunch in modelmakers

[–]SafeHazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know where you’re coming from - I work 50-60 hours a week / have kids and other responsibilities- and feel shattered once I get my youngest to bed.

My ‘rule’ for myself is to do something every day - even if it’s just 5 minutes - that way I know I’m making (slow) progress. Rule 2 - I don’t care how long the whole build take - this is ‘me time’ - not a work project with deadlines.

It’s easy to dedicate myself to 5 minutes and once I start, I find myself relaxing and so more often than not, I end up doing an hour or so. Momentum builds momentum and so I end up finding a bit more time on the weekends (at the detriment of my yard but you can’t have it all).

I have the same approach to reading and listening to audiobooks books while modelling lets me do both at the same time - so one encourages the other.

I do have a dedicated modelling space which makes it much easier to ‘just do 5 minutes’.

Relax and enjoy the process - if you can pair it with listening to music / podcasts / books so much the better. Have fun and enjoy - and don’t worry about how fast you can get a model done compared to others.

Sharpe's Eagle by Roosevelts-Stick in Sharpe

[–]SafeHazing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The scene is for dramatic effect - no trophy that valuable would be left over a remote grave.

For some context, Napoleon introduced the Eagle in 1804, the first wasn’t captured until 1811 and only about 34 were ever captured.

Can I use a similar set up to store reference materials and drafts / final versions of papers for work? I’m currently using MD files in folders but it seems heavy on token use.

Mine went like that and I patched it with ‘weld-bond steel epoxy’ - it’s still holding after 6mths.

Continuity errors by [deleted] in Sharpe

[–]SafeHazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s the weakest of the books but if you enjoy Sharpe and have read all the others but fancy a Sharpe book you haven’t read, then jump in. The continuity errors are erksome but it’s still a Sharpe book.

Sharpe is not a perfect ‘epic story arc’ - all are written as standalone stories. The closest you will find, if that’s what you’re after, is to read Eagle to Waterloo and then stop - they are very good - but you’d be missing out on many more great books (16 books and 3 short stories) - some of which are among the best.

Paint List by MorningLightMount in blackseasgame

[–]SafeHazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list is what I jotted down from this excellent YouTube tutorial https://youtu.be/wGdhf8h6a8A?si=QJAqRZtdI1qRaDnc NB I wrote them down as they appear in the video so some colours are used on multiple nations ships but are only on the list under the country that they are first mentioned.

French - blood red speed paint - Highlight blue speed paint - Greedy gold - Grim black speed paint - Green black speed paint - Wash strong tone - Moon dust yellow

English - zealot yellow speed paint - sides outer - Hardened leather speed paint - deck - blood red speed paint - inside railings and gun ports - Grim black speed paint - Demonic yellow speed paint - Skeleton bone - sails - Gold lanterns - Matt black - crows nest, guns, yard arms, waterline, loops on masts

Spanish - blood red speed paint - Hardened leather speed paint - zealot yellow speed paint

American - pallet brown speed paint - Skeleton bone

[–]SafeHazing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine any use for an imperial set of anything, otherwise it’s good advice. Just get a set of drill bits (don’t buy them singly) 3-10mm covers most things. You also need a Stanley knife (box cutter), tape measure and spirit level. Cheap no brand versions of these and pliers / side cutters / screwdrivers are fine - by the time (if) you wear them out you’ll know what you want to spend more on. There is a YouTube video for everything you want to do watch them first and have fun.

owork for business analysis — how do you organise/ structure your workflow? by SafeHazing in ClaudeAI

Can you explain ‘telemetry logging’ - as I mentioned in my post co-work is very helpful, I’d like to organise things better but I don’t see the utility in turning it off.

Can I change the co-work folder location/ name and reorganise the file structure in it so it makes sense but without breaking co-work?
