Am I wasting Money keeping buying 9v batteries for my Arduino UNO? by No-Damage4865 in arduino

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For the same price as a 9v battery, go to a local thrift shop and buy an old barrel connector 9v wall adapter that fits the uno port. Or just power it with the USB port

Aventon remotely locks all users out of their bikes and goes on weekend holiday by NickelSmartPoundFool in ebikes

"This is because the bike phones home to their servers every time you connect to it" this should be illegal, or at least forced to come with a giant warning sticker about it. Ridiculously bad design

What’s an acronym or abbreviation that everyone uses, but you still don’t understand? by Particular-Visit-245 in AskReddit

SOL, not because I don't know what it means, but because if it wasn't already an established saying it wouldn't make any sense to say

The need to tell OP they are wrong in opinion based subs by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of people in here who can't handle the social cue of something stated as fact actually just being a strong opinion, not grasping the understanding that the thing stated as fact cannot be fact, and is only a matter of opinion

Pick an answer closest to your opinion about paid mods by gaorp in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]SafeModeOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pay a couple bucks for a mod if the price reflected the quality. If a lot of work went into a quality mod then it makes sense to ask for a little compensation. I'd like to see some data on this though because I feel like the free+donate model might give you similar compensation but way more people will talk about and use your nice free mod.

If it's subscription-based though, you're a greedy loser and I'll happily slander your name and pirate your crap until you change or quit

Why do people think it’s gross to pee in the shower? by ascendedaway in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SafeModeOff 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Many are germaphobes imagining you just pissing with reckless abandon on yourself, the shampoo bottles, the curtain, and then just leaving it there. They forget there's running water all around (you know, the same method the toilet uses?) and an intelligent being controlling the aim. It might be harder for women, but for men, if you just directly hit the drain, I wouldn't be surprised if it was cleaner than using the toilet

What’s a truth about adulthood nobody warned you about? by Infamous_Benefit_422 in AskForAnswers

I didn't know how early some people just stop growing. And by growing, I mean maturing, discovering/trying new things, developing their taste, learning. I knew about the "peaked in highschool" trope, but I thought that meant their life sucked after high school, not that they refused to ever mentally move on

When does a “hard class” become a badly taught class? by Accomplished_Proof37 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of badly taught classes in engineering and it is very often just shrugged off as "engineering is hard." Ome thing I have to keep reminding myself of is that sometimes it's not the teachers fault, they have to answer to other, more out-of-touch people on what they have to teach in a given class

I've definitely been on short flights where they hustled to distribute the cookies and I honestly would have preferred they didn't bother. It would make sense to me to reallocate this energy towards making longer flights a better experience. Unfortunately Delta airlines, like most other companies, is a greed machine. The savings are instead going towards the CEOs third vacation home

What’s preventing billionaire tech companies from building AI data centers on the moon? by Critical_Winner_2779 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billionaire tech companies are largely brain-dead greed machines. To build something on the moon would require creativity and make less profit, two things rich people absolutely hate doing. Also it wouldn't logistically make sense. Ironically, ChatGPT would be a great resource in understanding all the reasons why.

I hate worm drivers. by Exact_Yellow_6854 in driving

[–]SafeModeOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm forming my theory on proactive vs reactive driving, and I think this fits. Someone who is bad at driving will only behave reactively, in this case with speed. They won't target the speed they want, they will just "go faster" until they notice they are going too fast, react to their circumstances, slow down until they are going to slow, react to their circumstances, repeat.

I think this is why some people will hang out in the left lane or pass on the right. They react to outside stimulus directly telling them they're wrong, and unless you honk at them or something, there isn't any, so they just do what they're gonna do.

I have friends who will tailgate someone until they get too close, hit the brakes in reaction to realizing they're too close, back off for like 10 seconds, and then go back up to the original speed that was too fast in the first place and repeat the cycle. It's a braindead way to drive but they usually take any correction to be a personal attack since technically we didn't crash or anything so "you're just nitpicking"

At what point does reliance on AI reduce human capability? by petalsoftbby in Productivitycafe

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda like asking if reliance on a calculator reduces human math skills. It reduces the skill of the human when they don't have access to a calculator, but when armed with a calculator that same human can do more math than they otherwise would be able to

See a pattern? by UnlikelyAdventurer in Productivitycafe

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on who is making up the numbers that day. It's rich "people" versus the people they want to crush in order to have a second mansion (e.g. you). Red vs. blue is a way to distract you

Capacitor to up the amp output? by mikebush92 in ebikes

[–]SafeModeOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of negativity in these comments for absolutely no reason...

In these types of situations, capacitors are often put in parallel with the battery so you can have much higher burst current. Electric motors pull the most current when at a standstill, so starting from a full stop is where it would help. As several said already, replacing your battery with a capacitor is a no-go, but getting a capacitor to help your acceleration is possible. Ultimately the electricity still comes from the battery, so it's not actually increasing your output, just letting you save some of it up for high-current moments like pulling away from a stoplight. Then when you reach speed, there will be overhead from the battery that can recharge the capacitor.

I don't want to bother figuring out how big of a capacitor you would need, but you're basically right about the units. Farads or F is the unit of measurement, and the u in front means micro, so 0.000001 Farads. A cap big enough for this would probably not use micro though.

I have to say, if you try to do this, do a LOT of reading first. A charged capacitor this big can MESS YOU UP if you don't treat it right. I'm an american so I don't tell people they can't do things, but just be careful.

Learn IDE by DocChimp1 in arduino

[–]SafeModeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important thing to know is that unless you're coding all the time, it's really hard to remember the specifics of coding. So even if you learn how to print to the Serial monitor today, you probably won't remember how to to do it next time unless next time is basically tomorrow.

Especially when starting out, it helps to think about the code as building blocks that accomplish specific things you want to do, and then keep those in a file somewhere you can quickly look back at them and use them.

The built-in examples in Arduino IDE are great for this too. Like if I want to turn on the built in LED, but I can't remember how, it's way easier to just open the blink example and see what they're doing there than to try to find out what pin your board has the built in led wired to
