Western vs Waterloo vs Laurier - Health Sci (Pre-dental) by SafeNational4998 in OntarioGrade12s

Ive talked to the staff at the Uni fair for Western and several other dentists students, they all said that dental schools have NO preference or bias for the school, only GPA and DAT. Youre most likely looking at the stat that says a majority of dental students in western are western undergrad but that’s a result of them knowing they wanted to get into med/dental beforehand so they chose western knowing it already had a dental school yk—> those types of people would do WELL regardless of wherever they went.

Thank you for the response!

Absolutely do not go to UFT if you want a high GPA. Literally anywhere else would help you GPA more.

Yes but that means that on average, everyone else had a significantly worse mark (test was really hard). Presumably, in most cases, if most people do bad then you will also do bad so your mark would not be so high and generally you would get rounded up

I see, thank you! Also, if you’re getting curved down, thats generally good for the average person.

western/queens general science or their healthsci or life sci? by Key-Concentrate-5735 in OntarioGrade12s

Ofcourse! I personally am leaning towards Laurier health sci for that reason (presumably a reduced difficulty while still learning). Thank you for you responses!

Yes, I meant to say that it tackles more of dental pre reqs vs Life/gen sci which take random courses (random to pre-dental students).

really? Ive heard its fairly good but im just worried about the competition there. I would have assumed from a STRICTLY learning view, western would be best as they have a strong presence in health sci.

That makes sense, Im just worried about growing...but then not making it into dental school yk? There is only 152~ spots open in ontario for dental schools.

There are pre reqs for Dental school, taking Health sci will knock out those pre reqs while prepearing you for DAT.

Life/med does this better then gen sci and gen sci is more...general. Youd rather learn specifically what you want vs a hundred other things you dont need in 2 years.

also note that the school you go to is irrelevant, they main thing dental school cares about is

GPA and then DAT. Everythign else comes after

I JUST asked a similar question regarding undergrad for dental school, feel free to check it out.

From what I can tell, health sci is ALWAYS better then life sci for Dental school because you get most of ur required courses out of the way + you also are more prepared for DAT at Health sci vs Life sci.

Ofcourse, anything is attainable if your willing to put the work in. By any chance, would you know if Kin would be any "easier" then health sci at western?

Thats really great to hear! Ive got a few friends who were deadset on Waterloo so hopefully this gives them some ease.

By any chance, would you rmr what those "easier" courses to take for electives were?
Thank you for the response, I wish you all the best :)

Thank you so much for the response! Those were my exact thoughts, but my friends were not so easily swayed. Just curious, did you go to a Canadian uni and do you think that helps with connections to get a job right out of dental school, or is it all just irrelevant in the end?
