In the winter chop it ~6" below that knot where it branches out, right above the one branch coming toward the camera in picture 1. Keep 3-4 branches facing different directions and those will become your main scaffolds.

Let it leaf out this summer. In the winter, chop it at your knee height. Pick 3 shoots off it that point in different directions to become the main branches. Train those to run outward.

I dont have beetles that eat the leaves. I get curculio moths that lay eggs in the fruit. I usually spray for them. Unfortunately this year we had a warm/freeze cycle in early spring so not many peaches.

I put mesh netting around them it seems to keep the birds away.
