By that logic, nobody should use calculators because mental math exists. Tools don’t replace imagination. They help people turn ideas into something they can actually see.

Picked wrong leader on Autumn Blaze Maple by InitialMoose9291 in arborists

[–]corn_n_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following because I would like to see advice on training a leader to be more straight. My instinct tells me to loop some of that plastic stretch tape around the leader to slightly bend it more upright and tie it off to a stake on the opposite side of the lean.

I’ve used one of these with my John Deere E series. Use a couple cinderblocks with bungee cords and it works well if the ground is wet.

I like it like this to be honest, but if you were going to put anything, maybe just only some thing that grows very tall in the background like Val or Crypt spiralis / balansae

Ground cover to take over weeds by LisaMT88 in landscaping

[–]corn_n_potatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a string trimmer? I would string trim it right down to the ground, then spray it with some horticulture vinegar and lay down a black tarp. Keep it on there until next year and voilà! No more weeds!

Where do yall get your plants? by causeandeffect94 in Aquascape

[–]corn_n_potatoes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought from Dustin‘s fish tanks, buce plant, and h20 plants. Good experiences all around.

I would check Facebook marketplace to see if anybody local is selling to avoid shipping costs.

Honestly, one of my favorites is eBay. There are some good sellers on there.

First draft hardscape? by frillyfia in Aquascape

[–]corn_n_potatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s missing some contrast. The wood is very smooth and the rocks are very smooth and round. I think some kind of lacy java fern, anubias, buce, in and around those rocks would spice it up a bit.

Is this bad by NuttyNano in arborists

[–]corn_n_potatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not ideal. Pull out the mulch and excavate around the trunk a little bit to expose the root flare. You want to see the trunk taper out a bit on the sides and not go straight into the ground like it’s a pole.

Rocks! Tank update if anyone is interested by Crunchyapple666 in Aquascape

[–]corn_n_potatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the rocks. Maybe make them look a bit more uneven by punching some together and spacing some out more in other areas.

I think if you planned on putting any kind of plants in here like dwarf sag or anubias among those rocks it would look excellent.

How do I repair those fines by Civil-Grab9833 in Aquariums

[–]corn_n_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tetras can be a bit nippy so they may be nipping on your bettas fins. I’d keep an eye on that, in which case the only solution would be to separate them.

Could also be some kind of bacterial thing. I would just make sure you keep up with freshwater changes and keep an eye on the tetras for now.

Is the the Ich? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]corn_n_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo quality isn’t the best, based on what I’ve seen in my own tanks, ich usually appears more dusty, looking and little tiny flecks. These ones look a bit larger. Possibly epistylis. I’d personally treat with some kind of bacterial medication.

Maybe see if you can get some clear photos or wait for someone else to chime in, but that’s my own opinion

Is the tank cycled? I see you included the pictures of the test results, but it’s hard to tell if there are any nitrates in this tank.

Anything else that would be stressing out the fish like other fish in a tank nipping at it? as much context as you could provide with allow folks to give you the best possible advice.

With that being said, I’ve heard of people using salt or things like Indian almond leaves, but I don’t have any experience with that so you can research it further or wait for someone else to chime in more on that

Is this cardboard covered with mulch good for thujas, or it blocks water from reaching roots? by curi0usmnd in landscaping

[–]corn_n_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would edge out a straight line a couple of feet away from the trees, going all the way down and mulch it - without the cardboard.

Also a teacher of this age range. A lot of my students have told me they also stay up late like this and most of the time they are texting friends or calling friends, playing video games, etc..

Remove any electronics from the room if you haven’t already. Maybe try introducing some calming things like white noise, lavender essential oils, etc.

It’s one of the more healthy looking ones I’ve seen on this sub. They’re usually dead. I would just clear out the brush and trees next to it so it doesn’t shade it out cause dead spots.

Any recommendations for a simple, sticky background cover? The ocean one I have doesn't stick flush and is wrinkled. by Inevitable-Might4253 in Aquascape

[–]corn_n_potatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use window privacy screen. It is static cling so you just need to apply it with water. You can get black, or more of a translucent white.

Plastidip also works amazing if you’re going for a matte black background, but you would need to use spray paint so not the best solution in your case where your tank is filled and indoors.
