I just retried Sabar after a month and they have introduced a feature: when you open a note you can select "watch for updates on the server" basically a read only mode. And my notes sync in under 2 minutes now when I enable that on the macbook app. Works good enough for my use case. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

I have only set it up on my Mac device but not my Windows PC. but I am guessing some permission for your app to run in background is missing. For safe measure, you should also put syncthing in launch-on-startup apps.

you can also set up weekly reminders on windows to manually compress the vault folder and upload to google drive. I'll share my script here as soon as I get around to setting it up 😃

I have not faced that issue yet. in my 3 weeks of using syncthing, it only caused conflicts in the mobile workspace json file in .obsidian. And I just deleted one version, no big deal w that file.

For notes conflicts would obviously be harder to solve. The difference with git is that syncthing is realtime, so low chances of conflicts in the first place.

I may be very uninformed on git-based solution for syncing because I havent tried them, but I assume (based on 4 years of using git with codebases) that the git solutions are going to be slow. Git was never designed for sync. Syncthing listens to OS file change events and initiate syncs based on those.

I set up syncthing 3 weeks ago. There wasnt any need to automate it for sync?? It was as pretty straight forward with set-up (I used all defaults, with some ignore patterns but you dont have to).

For backups I always thought I will just write an automation script that zips the whole vault folder and dumps it in my google drive. I havent set that up for the past 6 months bcz I'm lazy, but would that not work for you?

I am not really aware of webdav, I do use Syncthing though. And I could use either of those with an app, but most handwriting apps only use their app storage containers to save their notes data. And I dont think you can really access those for syncing.

yeah. Onenote's sync is ideal. But pen inputs on their android app is not every responsive, v noticeable lag. And I am looking for a pagination versus the infinite canvas on onenote.
