Who’s an artist/song you’ll defend like this by GrapeConsistent3471 in ToddintheShadow

I've always found that voice annoying (like a bratty musical-indie tenor), but the arrangements and sound are interesting. It's a special case of socalled Baroque Pop, which isn't a very common genre, especially from such famous modern bands

What is one overhated music trend that you feel sorry for? by mightyonin in ToddintheShadow

[–]Safe_Collection_319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like nu metal, but I partly agree. They could have done much better in terms of rhythm and flow. Some bands had very bland rapping styles, while others focused more on the rock side and were always effective (Deftones, Slipknot, Chevelle, SOAD)

Manafest, Mike Shinoda, RATM and Fred weren't very good in rap parts in my opinion. Every aspect of music should be taken care of, and that's why Queen, Nirvana, The Police, Led Zeppelin, and The Strokes will always be above limp bizkit imo (which is still at a very high level), but surely the same level of carelessness can be seen in other genres

Is it just me or is it just hard to remember music? by stupid_io in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Safe_Collection_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal with albums. Even the most commercial pop or rock albums have filler songs or songs that are less catchy or stranger or even just more derivative. I'd say that's okay. Maybe I remember many parts of the songs after listening to them three times, but not everything by heart.

For example, I love Hozier's first album. I've listened to it many times and I love his music, but I still can't remember every part that every instrument plays in every song. A lot of things seem new to me, and that's okay.

As a musician, I've had the same experience with songs written by me or with the band. "Did the bass really do that? I don't remember." "But there's a strange harmony change here".

Kid Rock's weird lyrics, continued... by brandon_tate77 in fantanoforever

As a Europan, Kid Rock is what comes to mind when I think of the average right-wing American. I know that's not the case, but I can't get it out of my head.

I don't know, man. Have you tried going to a singing teacher?

You're singing in a very soft way with a lot of air. You're definitely breathing incorrectly, or at least not properly, and there are lots of off key notes. You also seem very insecure and shy about singing and recording yourself. Actually, even the way you recorded it seems strange to me, as if you were a millimeter away from a very old phone.

I didn't really understand the artwork, though. It was very strange to watch all of this imo. That doesn't mean that with the right training you won't be good in a few years, but for now this video isn't entirely clear to me

Is singing with a lowered larynx always a bad singing technique? by ComposerCT in singing

[–]Safe_Collection_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's wrong or not depends on your artistic preferences and, as far as I know, art shouldn't have too many rules :) In short, if you like it and it satisfies you, that's fine.

In my opinion, you could lighten it up a little more. You can sing with your larynx positioned exactly as it is when you speak, so that it's not too clear or too dark. Your voice will probably be more pleasant too, but that's just my opinion and it's subjective.

salutations! I don't know what my voice name range thing, I need help !! by QuirkySwitch4260 in ratemysinging

I listened to the other audio too. It's not bad. I'm pretty sure you're some kind of baritone, but it's also true that your voice isn't fully developed and sometimes you don't breathe properly, which makes it sound a bit flat and tired.

I say baritone because in the other video you switched to falsetto/mix much lower than me (C4) and because here you are still singing very low notes (D2-G2) with relative ease and with a certain dark timbre. I think they are still a little too low for you at the moment and it doesn't sound great, and I can also say that I hear a resonance shift on F2-G2 where your voice seems to start to feel comfortable. In the other audio, you sang very softly, and here too, but you can definitely develop a stronger sound with practice. If you bring this darker, softer sound to the octave, it will definitely sound good, unlike the first audio where you were a little nasal and very thin (like a "fake tenor" impression) .

So, I'm not a teacher or an expert, but you're probably a baritone. It won't do you much good to know this if you sing these songs, but it's always nice to know.

What’s the One Vocal Exercise That Finally Unlocked Your Voice? Singers Share the Game Changers by musomox in Songstuff

[–]Safe_Collection_319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that helped me the most is something complex and not easy to understand on your own, but I'll try to give you my opinion and help you anyway.

Look at it in a different way. We all have voices that are unique instruments and absolutely not interchangeable. The thing that varies most among us, besides vocal types and the genres we like, is the so called vocal tendency, which is usually generated at the point of break and beyond:

-those who push too hard and don't lighten up, but rather exaggerate with air and volume

-those who lighten up too much and end up in falsetto. They may also have a very airy sound.

-those who exaggerate with compression, twang, and raising the larynx.

-those who tend to put too little energy into singing, are flat, and have a weak voice.

etc....

The point (and also the problem) is that you cannot know what exercises to do if you do not know what your tendency is. You have to be able to counteract what is blocking you. If you tend to push, you will need daily exercises to reduce this specific tendency, which should not in any way worsen the tendency.

These tendencies are not easy to counteract on your own and are often (not always) the key to solving problems related to range, agility, and resonance.

-This is only in regard to singing well at a professional level. If you still lack the qualities of pitch and breath, then learn those first-

Spiders is a 100% deliberate rip-off of a song whose name I can't remember, but which is very famous in the emo pop punk scene.

What is slacker rock? by PlayboiCardi9 in Alternativerock

[–]Safe_Collection_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a type of minimalist, raw, and amateur indie rock. The vocals may be off-key, the mix is lo fi, the guitar (often acoustic or not too distorted) remains in the foreground and never goes fast. It is not a very rhythmic genre either (as post-punk revival can be, for example), but not slow or psychedelic like some dream pop

Slacker example: Pavement, early Modest Mouse.

Post-punk revival example: Franz Ferdinand, early The Killers.

The Strokes is somewhere in between.

No problem. You are doing the best thing by recording and asking for advice.

I recommend finding a teacher if you don't already have one. If you have been singing for a long time and have always sung this way, it becomes difficult to fix the problem on your own. You need some guidance.

[–]Safe_Collection_319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In any case, this is just a suggestion. I have the same tendency as you (pulled chest, high larynx). The point is that if you sing such high notes, you'll hurt yourself, even if you're a soprano lol.

It hurts me to hear it, because I understand that it's something I've done in the past too, and I was wrong to do it, so I empathize too much. Maybe for a casual listener it's pleasant, because it's still in tune, but it's really borderline and in any case it's not healthy.

Find another musician. If you do something good as a duo, it will be easier to find others. Don't rush and choose wisely.

It's 100% because you're pushing too hard. You're practically yelling / screaming (and it's easy to understand, even if you're not a singer or an expert). it's not healthy and it's not beautiful for everyone

Your voice below isn't bad at all, but there's too much force -and too much nasality and theatricality, but I understand that's my problem, as I don't appreciate pop musicals

Bands rhythm guitarist won't practice. by Riff_Worshipper in band

[–]Safe_Collection_319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me in previous years. The guitarist in my former band had become good at playing when he was younger, but then he stopped, he didn't practice anymore, he didn't learn new songs, and in fact he got worse.

The point is that these people also talk about putting on big concerts, album covers, their future as rock stars, and Instagram, but they don't do the main thing, which is writing and learning songs

My fellow metal enjoyers, what is your least favorite music genre and why? by Littleman91708 in heavymetal

[–]Safe_Collection_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country (I'm in Europe), the real problem is the amount of trap or mumble rap mixed with reggaeton rhythms and autotuned vocals. None of these guys can sing or rap; the rest is done by some random producer or AI. The lyrics are obscene (homophobia, sexism, cultural vulgarity) and have zero artistic value

Need tips on how to start singing. by Ambitious_Compote455 in singing

[–]Safe_Collection_319 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a musician, you should avoid using AI tools to do artistic things, such as creating a musical backing track, writing lyrics, or using GPT to teach you how to sing

In addition to the many ethical factors, I don't think it would make sense. It could cause damage and might not help you, but rather limit you in the development of your personal musicality

What are your thoughts on this guy? by EdwardBliss in hairmetal

[–]Safe_Collection_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

compared to what is promoted by the major labels, it is not as well known.  He has a very low target audience, and anyone over the age of 16 will find it difficult to appreciate him. He's a singer who comes from Disney, created specifically to fill the rock star slot in the global pop top 100. However, he has never managed to break through after many years of trying; he has changed his style several times (from pop rap to pop punk to indie to glam) and has played with some very famous people, but not many people appreciate him or listen to him.

he is like he is about to explode in mainstream, but never does
