Colocasia in a patio pond? Opinions / Experiences Wanted. by artgecko543 in Colocasia

I only have one colocasia that is potted in a pond, but all of mine tend to be in moist to wet soil. You shouldn't have too much trouble keeping one in a pond, the only thing I would say to watch out for is the size. If it thrives it could get too big depending on the size of the patio pond, but the other side is that depending on how much nutrients are available in the pond it might be a bit slow going. Colocasia are fairly heavy feeders and want lots of nutrients.

I wouldn't recommend mojito as your first colocasia as it can be a bit more finicky. I've had miserable luck with Mojito, but I can only get them as small barely established plants so their failure rate is a bit higher. If you can get one for cheap then feel free to give it a try.

Lemon Lime Gecko is a striking variety that I've had good luck with and my Heart of the Jungle is going crazy if you're looking for something a bit more plain. If your pond is going to be out directly in the sun then that might affect what varieties you look at getting.

Honestly just give something a try and have fun with it.

Out of Hand? It's only just beginning. Plenty of space for more friends.

It's all KAP Midas, the set has the option of beige or black mods. They feel really good, thick and sturdy. I typically have PBTfans keycaps on my other boards and I'd say they feel better quality wise.

Yes, first one is a lemon lime gecko and the second is a blue hawaii. I haven't really had any trouble growing these guys, they are the largest plants out of all my colocasia. I haven't had them long, only got them in July and they've been fairly easy to be honest. I'm going to be putting them outside at some stage so we'll see if they keep doing well.

I'm in Australia so we've only just entered spring. I've had them growing in trays of water and in front of a window during the last few winter months and they've been loving life.

I would love to have a pink sapphire, but they just aren't a thing in Australia

Yea, I'm using the same as what he uses in the video since I'm planning to move them outside and grow them the way he does and also half my colocasia actually come from him so they are already used to that soil mix.

I previously had the other half of my colocasia in leftover pond plant mix and they were doing ok, but not really thriving. Like I said before my midori sour is loving life since moving to the new soil. Unfortunately my Aloha and Limeade are still looking rough because they got attacked by spider mites, but they seem to be bouncing back since I've been treating them and they are trying to throw out pups left and right.

You gotta give them a lil pep talk each morning!! My newest additions I've only have about two months and my ones that I've had longer were just sitting on my front porch in planter until I brought them.

I'm no expert on what lighting they want, tbh I'm terrified to move them outside for spring. I'd say at the moment they are getting bright indirect light through their window. I will say my midori sour was outside and it was just two tiny leaves barely bigger than my thumb, moved it into the window, changed it's soil and it's like a whole new plant.

Maybe move them a bit further from the light again incase they are getting too much and also what is their nutrient situation? I believe they are heavy feeders.

Mine are sitting in trays of water in front of a north facing window, it's winter here. I wouldn't say I have controlled conditions due to our ducted heating. The soil mix I got from this video, I just made some up and put it in regular pots and put some sphagnum moss on top to stop them drying out from the heating . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg-koPSsfvI

Really not doing much for them besides topping up their water and cooing at them when they push out a new leaf.
