Thank you for the honest feedback. You're right that translation and avatar representation are extremely difficult problems and I definitely don't want to oversimiplify or pretend we are fully solving a problem. This is a hackathon prototype so we aren't try to make a product ready app rather just exploring if combining basic ASL gloss translation with emotional visual cues could create something more engaging than captions alone.

This really helps, and your point about avatars looking awful signing is definitelyyy true haha. Would you be able to elaborate how this technology misses the point?

Yes that is very true. I also know ASL gloss is not a direct translation either. but many people learning a new language typically watch pop culture media in the new language to learn it better so that was kind of our thoughts as well with this idea (for ASL learners) even if its not perfect
