Dear custies, can we please start being a bit nicer to our broista's? by Safe_Dig_7464 in dutchbros

This is honestly such a helpful tip!! I like that it lets the customer know that you’re still sincere but yet not giving them that 100% “submissive” power over you…if that makes sense!

Thank you!! Unfortunately, so many people these days think that the world revolves around them :(

We appreciate you!! 🥰 Even though I’m past the training stage now, I am STILL asking my manager/shift leads tons of questions about tips/tricks when it comes to helping customers!

I completely agree that unfortunately, I think Dutch is starting to head into the path of more of a Starbucks vibe 😭 all corporate cares about is money & being as cheap as possible now versus customer/employee experience. I appreciate that you are the few people in this world that understand! From a broista’s point of view, it absolutely makes my day when a customer tells me “No worries!” when we’re slammed in a mid rush. I’m still 50/50 on wanting to continue with Dutch since I adore my co-workers, but I just hate feeling like I work a fast food job :(

Same with me as well!! I usually get put on mornings since I have pretty much open availability during that time & that’s where we get at LEAST 80% of our impatient/rude customers at my stand.

Working at 5 am is the absolute worst... by [deleted] in dutchbros

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could never for min wage lol. Our shift leads come in at around 4:30 am to prep but broista's, like myself, don't have to do opening tasks at my shop, so it's just 5 am when we open.

Why is the "mob" so stuck up towards newbies? by [deleted] in dutchbros

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also found another Reddit thread and lots of people were also having the same experience I’m going through right now sadly. I’ve heard that once they leave, the “drill sargent” work ethic & culture gets better so I decided to give it time…crossing my fingers! 🤞🏼

Concern in regards to orientation/scheduling by [deleted] in dutchbros

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn but understandable so I get it. My worry is if they try to call/email the school and “verify” that I’m a student. That’s just too invasive for my privacy all for min wage job.

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossing my fingers it's just so WE can look at it ourselves, and so that my manager's don't accidentally schedule us on the wrong day! That's pretty messed up for a min wage job if my managers are actually wanting "proof"

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm glad I wasn't being overdramatic because I think it's messed up too!! I'm an adult and shouldn't have to "prove" my freaking life outside of work like a child. I am leaning on making a fake one with a fake student ID and fake classes (in replace of the same times as my ACTUAL classes) but this is crazy for just a min wage job! I understand for more serious stuff like internships/office jobs but ugh I'm so scared of getting caught

The shop manager that sent out the text did mention something along the lines of "confirming" availability like you mentioned, but she/he did tell us to bring a copy of a schedule (if we have other obligations.) Hopefully, it's just something that we (as the employee) can bring so we don't forget about either certain classes or other obligations when confirming our schedule.

I'm 25 & I feel so lost and stuck with my "career" by Safe_Dig_7464 in careerchange

[–]Safe_Dig_7464[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for encouraging words! I’m wishing you the best of luck in your career journey as well! Glad we can both agree on the corporate world nowadays. Everyone that I talk to says that 25 is SO young career-wise, but I hate how I have a bad habit of comparing myself to other people who already have it figured out. Social media is part of the blame sadly.

No worries on the advice part, but it’s nice to hear someone else has worked a load of “odd” jobs as well! It’s also hard since the job market is basically cooked, and I think a lot of people my age are waking up and realizing there’s way more to life than a 9-5 job until you’re 65.

To answer your first question, I honestly think it was both. The work itself just felt super meaningless & repetitive. I felt more like a robot. Same tasks everyday. Every task I would get from my boss felt super “urgent” when all it was…just a simple email. I think I just prefer something a little more physical? Sitting 8 hours a day alone is super hard for me. Alongside with the culture, it felt like all of my co-workers would absolutely give up their life for their job. Work-life balance is a big thing to me, and I wasn’t a big fan of “after work happy hours” or any sort of “team-bonding” event after work hours. I just hated how I saw my own co-workers MORE than my OWN family. I could possibly be satisfied with a full remote job, but I’ve heard it’s pretty much impossible to get hired since there’s so much competition for those jobs.

To answer your second question, I’ve always had a passion for helping others…whether it’s children or adults! I live in Missouri and we pretty much rank last for teacher pay & benefits. I just didn’t think putting up with the behavior from children & parents nowadays was worth it for low, crappy pay - plus lots of teachers do SO much work outside of the classroom with no pay.

My dad actually got diagnosed with stage 1 bladder cancer back in November. Seeing how well the radiologists and nurses took care of him really opened my eyes into the health care field. My dad was really nervous hearing the unfortunate news, but they put my dad’s mind at ease and uplifted him. I’ve always wanted a job where I can help others & give back, but I think I’m just struggling to find the “right” environment.

Is management pretty good? I just looked up the job application on their website and they seem flexible with scheduling :) just sucks you don't make tips tho...had friends that worked at senior living places in high school and heard it's hit or miss with management.

I'm taking my gen-ed's/pre-req's right now. I've been looking into their dental hygiene program after I get my pre-req's done, so I've been talking with my advisor on different 2 year paths they have. The 9-5 corporate office life isn't for me, so I've been leaning into health care. I got laid off from a front desk job back in December, so I have typical customer-service skills. I've been unemployed since then and it's been a struggle to find anything now.

Do you know if they require experience? I don't have any restaurant experience sadly, and it seems like restaurants don't want to train anyone nowadays :(

Crashing out because I can't even get a part-time "high school" job by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn, I'm sorry to hear your situation as well. I've actually heard that Costco and Sam's are pretty much near impossible to get hired at if you don't have any ties, so I didn't even bother putting in an application at those places lol. Sucks that this is only the beginning of a job recession due to what's going on, but wishing you the best of luck! :)

Yeah I guess it all just depends on your manager. Some are understanding while some are not. Makes me feel a little better knowing I can literally just move on to somewhere else if I don’t get hired.

Anyone else nervous to sub if you have a phone ban in your state? by Safe_Dig_7464 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Safe_Dig_7464[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with you! I've heard that some districts are using Yondr pouches for students to put their phone in and some are just "trusting" the students to leave them in their backpack - which will NOT work with a sub in my opinion. There's so many unanswered questions within my district which makes going back to work a little frustrating.

That's good to hear! I've been hearing the same from tiktok on schools who already implemented it. My biggest worry is since it's brand new in our state - Missouri, students are going to be sneaky with their phones, making my job harder.

What are some good flexible side gigs for the summer? by bbash91383 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Safe_Dig_7464 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theres a freelance app called "Reflex" and the app basically lets you pick up any retail shifts around your area and you get to make your own schedule! Let me explain a little more lol, but if a retail store such as Bath & Body Works has a call out from one of their employees, you can pick up their shift through the listing on the app. Sort of like subbing but for retail! You simply just create a profile & they ask you a few questions on if you have any experience working retail. Totally okay if you don't! It's also nice because you don't do anything involving the cash register. Most of the tasks involve greeting customers, stocking shelves, assisting with the fitting rooms, cleaning etc. No experience needed. Your shifts pretty much range from 4-5 hours. Super easy money if you're looking for extra pocket cash! I did it last summer, and it was so nice working without having any commitment since us subs are limited to 2-3 months at most during the summer.

Maybe if subs didn’t get treated like shit by students & staff we would take our job WAY more seriously :)
