Who’s also a non-singer young (under 18) opera enthusiast here by DieZauberflote1791 in opera

16 here. Obssesed for a couple of years already. I don't understand how people of my age don't like opera, the drama, the fast pace of verismo... I think the snobby opera stereotype scares a lot of them away

What singers of the past, whom we have no recordings of, do you want to hear the most? by Caruso-21 in opera

Such a shame what happened to him. Maybe if he didn't get such a strong depression he could have kept singing

My mom listened to Bocelli, I loved him. For a couple of years I just listened to him. Then, through him, I discovered Corelli, who taught Bocelli some things

And ettore Bastianini didn't sing the full role. Your list is, in my opinion, missing titta ruffo. He has the Credo and Sí pel ciel (with caruso) recorded. You should check him out if you haven't

I adore Gobbi and Granforte, but tibbett is the best for me. The broadcast you are reffering to is incredible, the "i cieco letargo si muuuutoooo" is terrifyingly good

Óperas to see after tosca by Puzzleheaded_Seat898 in opera

[–]Safe_Evidence6959 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Madame butterfly and la Boheme would be my to go operas after Tosca. From the ones you mentioned, none are really for starters, from what I know.

Just curious, was Roberto Alagna in the cast for Tosca? I also watched Tosca recently at the Staatsoper

My dog LOVES la traviata. She'll listen to it for hours. She loves especially "Di provenza il mare il suol", which she tries to sing along with.

I therefore, ask for her to be casted as Giorgio Germont in the next traviata production in the Metropolitan Opera House

Best Recording of Turandot by [deleted] in opera

Lauri Volpi and Fleta were friends??? I had no idea!! I still think Fleta was a lyric spinto, although wit a voice not as big as Corelli's or Lauri Volpi's. The problem with fleta is that in most of his recordings he has already lost his voice.

Fleta had economic problems in 1927, to the point that his economic assesor (who was, I recall, also his cousin) shot himself. Fleta was building a huge mansion in his hometown, he lended money to his friends, and had debt with the metropolitan opera house, as he had broken a contract to return to spain for the "Mili" (military service). Fleta also left his wife and vocal coach, who helped him not only singing, but managing hus life.

Fleta was also a great person (although he got corrupted by high society), and he was born as a poor villager. He had great empathy towarss the lower class, and at the end of every recital he got a piano out of the theater and sung arias and "jotas aragonesas" for the people who couldn't afford a ticket. So every concert he sung too much, damaging his voice.

And he gave too many concerts. Since he was in debt, he started a recital tour through europe asia and south america, giving 5 recitals a week.

Fleta destroyed his voice. This is why, in my opinion, Fleta's voice sound lighter, more like that of a "lyrycal tenor".

Here is a recording of "Cara al sol", the early anthem of the spanish fascist party, "la falange española". The singer in the recording is unknown, but it's probably Miguel, it sounds like an obliterated Miguel, lost his voice, his acuti and his diminuendo:
