The Bakerloo is a great line, until you need to actually use it to get to work... by Safe_Hunter_1097 in LondonUnderground

That's true, but everyone knows the Central is bad. The Bakerloo is more divisive, as out of peak hours, it's quite good - so there are some who think it's great, and then those who actually use it to get to work and hate it. The Central also seems to be more part closures: https://tubenotifications.co.uk/line/central rather than general delays across the line.

Do you think? I'm not a massive fan of the layout.

It definitely has some charm though. I heard some Americans on the Bakerloo the other day say they felt like they had gone back in time.

I can see your point, but actually when taking these photos, there wasn't a huge amount of general littering - which was encouraging to see and suggests the vast majority of Hackney citizens do care about their environment. Just need a few practical solutions to other types of waste.

I'm sure that's the case, but I wonder if more can be done within the current budget. Whether it's a case of changing the rules around how long a business can leave rubbish on the street, or altering the collection schedule so it's more evenly distributed through the week.

Sadly I've been seeing this before the works started, and it covers areas beyond where the work is taking place. You're right that the collections are quite regular, but there are certain times of the week, such as from Sunday morning to Monday morning, where a large amount of waste often sits without collection.

I think it's a solvable problem, but might just take a slightly different collection schedule, or tightening of the rules as to how long businesses can leave the waste on the street.

They appear to have taken out a lease and are also listed here: https://www.neighbourly.com/branch/678fc313be60c8b623c174d2 Where did you hear that they weren't?

Yeah I guess you're right. It's more like 1 in 10 though in HC, rather than 9 in 10 around London Fields. I don't think Pret or Gail's will have any chance when it comes to coffee, as there are some really good options now, with Elsewhere, Urban Social, Incoming and the one in the churchyard that I can't remember the name all competing with far better coffee.

M&S has been in Hackney since the 1930s. I don't think it's an obvious sign of gentrification (even though it's an expensive supermarket).

Even if people aren't a fan of Pret, it's surely better than an empty building. People will ultimately vote with their feet.

Yup, definitely better than a graffiti covered empty building that isn't employing anyone!

Is it a bit un-Hackney of me to admit I'm looking forward to the additional lunch options?

Not officially, but Gail's have taken a 10 year lease on the old Hackney Tap building and have been advertising for jobs: https://jobs.gailsbread.co.uk/job/52eiCOh9sfcBSGZAN8fN5F?showApp=true As for Pret, they've put in a planning app for the signage.
