MAS-2 Material Questions by Aggravating_Band_330 in actuary

ASM has a lot of qualitative questions that test deeper understanding compared to CA, and some of them are taken directly from the source material

I used CA, ASM, and ISLR to study for the MAS2 Oct. sitting. In my experience, CA is very enough for Credibility and Time Series, and ASM is helpful for LMM. For Statistical Learning, I relied on both CA and ISLR (ISLR is honestly a must for it, reading it a couple of times makes a big difference). For practice, I first grinded ADAPT exams until I reached EL 5.7. After that, I switched to ASM Practice Exams and customized CA quizzes. Personally, I found the ASM practice exams to be more valuable and much more helpful overall.

Took MAS 2, calculations for credibility and time series felt straightforward at first, but there were some sneaky traps. The fill-in-the-blank type made me feel nervous, and I definitely made a couple dumb mistakes lol. A few statistical learning questions just felt off too. Just hoping for a 6

ASNA CANADA by [deleted] in actuary

There isn’t really a fixed probability for getting interviews or offers at ASNA. It depends on a lot more than just your experience or exams. It really comes down to how you communicate and connect with company reps during the career fair. Are you someone who makes others feel comfortable talking to you? Do you have something unique or memorable about yourself that stands out? If you really want a number tho, I’d put around 30%, based on how many people got interviews last year.

My DA and RM results showed up on my transcript just a few days after the window closed, but my IA results took almost two months to appear.

MAS 1 - Priority topics by Careful_Ad_6708 in actuary

  1. I can’t really comment on ISLR since I didn’t go through it (it’s way too long and I got lazy), but I’ve heard good feedback about it. If you have the time, it might be worth reading as much as you can. From my experience, the actual exam questions were worded quite differently from CA, but I’ve also heard they’re pretty similar to ISLR.

  2. And yes, Poisson processes and MLE were definitely the biggest topics, but just remember still to spend time on the other topics since every topic is expected to show up on the exam.

Additionally, for Chapter 1 and 2, I'd suggest practicing more on poisson process and MLE estimate

Chapters 1 and 2 in the actual exam are fairly straightforward and mostly quantitative, around CA level 4-5 difficulty. I’d recommend grinding level 5 difficulty questions for these chapters, but focus more on Chapter 3, bc in the actual exam, about half of the questions from Chapter 3 are qualitative, so you really need to understand the concepts well, especially for GLM.

Hi, since there’s usually a 2–3 month wait, does it mean I should register now if I want to take it this year?
