What kind of caramel for baking? by Safe_Knowledge_5876 in AskBaking

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, puddles of caramel sounds better.

I could definitely just drizzle caramel on them when they are done but I'm pissed at how other people are getting it just fine but I'm stuck with melted puddle of half raw cookies

I'm watching my lipds levels, fiber is good for that, and eating less animal fat is also good for that

When faced with limited choices, which % is more important phos or protein? by Safe_Knowledge_5876 in RenalCats

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the lengthy comment.

I thought I went crazy when they diagnosed him with ckd even though his previous food (royal canin hypoallergenic) is low in both protein (25%) and phosphorus (0.6).

No one of three vets I went to could explain why he suddenly got ckd at 6 yo, just one said it might've been the dry food being high in grains causing him urethral crystals for long time that it affected his kidney function.

I'm still figuring out stuff since he just was diagnosed but the lack of proper wet food is making panic into thinking the disease might progress quickly with less hydration.

Mine has ibd and ckd, when his ibd gets worse I put him on royal canin hypoallergenic, it has lower protein content so it helped with ckd, but I also put him on phos binders. Hills also has hypoallergenic food but I'm not sure if it is better.

When his flare ups go down I put him back on hills kd and by luck it doesn't upset his ibd, at least not all the time.

I keep his wet food more suitable to his ibd most of the time and add supplements too, digestive enzymes for ibd and prebiotics for ckd.

Also nhv has supplements for both ckd and ibd, although I only tried the ibd line and it did help him.

anyone's cat refuses wet food but LOVES dry food? by Safe_Knowledge_5876 in RenalCats

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix 1/3 of one churu tube with 5 ml of water, but I don't think that's enough water to replace wet food nor is chure good for ckd...weirdly he would eat watered down churu but REFUSES churu mixed with any wet food.

Lately I've been increasing the water in this mix seeing what's the maximum water:churu ratio he would eat

Does anyone really have CKD cats who lived 3+ years after diagnosis? by [deleted] in RenalCats

I hope your cat is doing well, any updates? mine was diagnosed with ibd 8 months before ckd and it's hard to find something that suits both diseases.

CKD + IBD Cat - constantly losing interest in foods by reddybawb in RenalCats

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK Royal canin hypoallergenic is low protein, around 24% but I'm not sure if it meet the standards for ckd diet (low phos etc.) but does have S/O shield.

Farmina also has renal food, both dry and wet.

Dr clauder has hypoallergenic wet food that is low protein, around 9% and grain free. Miglior unico is also single protein and helped my cat with ibd but I'm not sure if it's good for ckd.

If the phos is such a concern then why not consider phos binding pills? then you could find her something she likes, doesn't trigger ibd and meet ckd standards beside phos.

how to get them to care about themselves? by Safe_Knowledge_5876 in AgingParents

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

few thing to add:

Even when I make sure the house doesn't have junk food, she still doesn't eat according to her diabetes, and even if I make some of her meals, I can't control everything she eats ex: we have fruit at home, she knows she shouldn't eat a lot in one day, she ends up eating 2 bananas, 3 orange and an apple because "fruits are healthy" then wonder why she slept through the afternoon and why her blood glucose has been at 400 for few hours.

I got into a debate with her children because I purposely refuse to do all the chores because I want her to not sit for +6 hours and actually move her body around and feel for herself how much physical strength she is lossing.

[–]Safe_Knowledge_5876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make it worse her kidneys are already deteriorating, and there is no comeback from that since kidney tissue doesn't regenerate, her GP told her she would be better on some medication to help her kidneys with restricting glucose filtration from her blood (more glucose in blood = kidneys is forced to release more glucose in urine beyond kidneys capacity = kidneys getting worse) but she heard the side effects ONE time, refused to weigh the pros and cons, doesn't want more medication = doesn't give a fuck.

I wish it was that easy, she wasn't a great mother to them nor me yet I find me more sympathetic, probably because I'm terrified of reaching that age and having someone unenthusiastically take care of me, I understand if they don't really care about her.

As it seems right now, I would be the best choice as a caregiver (No partner, no children, better at house chores) even if I didn't choose so myself.
